hello im working on a 1995 LT1 moneys tight and i've done wat i can in the last 2 years to make a long story short i put a LT1 in a 86 fire bird. LT1 had the t5 tranny hooked up to it, also had smog legal headers 4 the 86. i want to the sate smog reff he told me if i finshed the car with that stuff on it he cant pass it. so i took off the t5 and the headers(which r 4 sale now). i got the T56 and the headers i need r in the mail. so i need some help to connet a few thing that i could not find on this forum. here is a list of wat i need to finish.
1. i want to keep the stock gagus i going to get th ERA gauge kit, but how do i conect it to the t56 and to the speedometer?
2.this is kind of a broad question, so it has parts.
A. wat r the fuel line on the 86(its was a 305 carb if that helps)?
B. which is the best way to connect fuel lines form the 86 to the 95 fuel rail?
heres an other list of wat i need to get done. if you can think of stuff im missing post it plz.
1. headers and exhaust system put on
2.bolt up t56 to lt1 get tranny bracit.
3.get starter and radiator, hoses and belts.
4.ERA gauge kit.

Re: working on LT1

1) 86 should be electric speedo for birds, so use the stock T56 electric VSS and PCM output to the gauge. If you got an oddball 86 with a mechanical speedo you can use a Cable-x box to drive it using the electric VSS

2)
a) Carb fuel lines ont work with the new high pressure EFI. The stock clamp ends risk slipping off under the higher pressure which would be disastrous

b) Use an EFI sender at the minimum with either AN lines or TPI hardlines and custom lines from the end to the rails. AN6 diagram with PNs is posted in the additional info thread

Re: working on LT1

Id recommend swapping the stock carb hardlines for something with a threaded end. If you can cut the ends off and flare the end for a stock saginaw fitting that would fly and be cheaper

Re: working on LT1

When I went from Carb, I swapped the entire fuel lines underneath the car with ones from a TBI/TPI thirdgen. However, trying to find ones where they don't cut the hose in the back by the tank is hard to find.

You could get by flaring the ends of the hard carb fuel line, get some fuel injection hose by the foot from autozone/advance/o'reillys, cut the high pressure quick-disconnect ends off of the 95 plastic hose, then use hose clamps.

One LT1 swapper on here used the LT1 plastic hose and put the metal thirdgen line inside the plastic hose. Then he used a heat gun and heat-shrunk the plastic tight to the metal line.

To remove the stock LT1 quick-disconnect fuel line ends, you need a quick disconnect tool.

Re: working on LT1

Hello sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but am having a little bit issues I'm doing some research on here and I can't quite find a straight answer or really good detailed pictures.

1. So I'm trying to hook up my LT one water pump and I'm not sure what radiator hoses to buy? I read that I need a Corvette hose. But I'm not sure if I need one that has a T in it? I'm running with no AC in no heater. And for the time being I don't have an oil cooler either. I also am using a stock radiator from a 87 Trans Am.

2. My next question is what is the steam to and where does it connect to? Does it connect to the radiator at all? I am under the impression that the steam to connects to the back of the heads and connects to a piece under the throttle body.

3. Now for the power steering, do I have to change the line that goes from behind the pulley on the front of the motor? Because it does not reach to the other side of the car. And am I supposed to buy that line from 95 and Paula? And if that's the case where do I connect the power steering lines from the P\S reservoir to the car?

Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks a lot.

Re: working on LT1

k the first pic is wat i believe to be the steam tube. That connects in the back of the heads to this front part right here. The second is a power steering line behind the pully and does not reach to the other side of the car. The third is power steering line on the 86 Trans Am which do I disconnect and what do I connected to.?

Pic 1 and 2 are heater hose fittings, coming from the heater core in your firewall. And yes third pic is oil cooler, honestly unless you plan on seeing circle track time in your car, i would cap it off, or what i did was knock it out, and tap in a 3/4" freeze plug for a cleaner look.

Re: working on LT1

The PS line behind the pully goes to the PS pump, and the other fitting at the pump goes to your PS resevoir. As for the lines, i beleive you should be able to rebend them to fit, but the ones i got worked perfect. Not sure if they were from an Impala, but it was an LT1 out of a B-body so it should be the same.

PM me with anymore questions you have

Re: working on LT1

So cprmn14, I can just cap the heater connection on the water pump. So I'll only two out of the five connection? Also I rebent theP/S line and it will reach the other side , but not sure where to connect them.

Thanks man

Yea just cap them but keep a eye on them if you use rubber caps they'll dry rot on you and split open on you.

I have seen pictures of the spout's removed and plugs in there. Rubber will work (has on mine) you just have to keep a eye on them, you might just be buying caps every 3-4 months.

Re: working on LT1

any thought on the radtiator tubing? does the lower one have to have a T fitting to connect to a piece of tubing under the throttle body?

Re: working on LT1

Dump the buffer box

Trans to PCM to Speedo

Corvette WP should work assuming all the external lines dont run into anything

Re: working on LT1

If your water pump is leaking, you should replace it as soon as possible. The optispark on the LT1's were notorius for crapping out when then they got wet....if that were to happen, then you'd have to remove the water pump and harmonic balancer to replace the opti! Those optisparks aren't cheap either.
