some questions on my swap
alright im close to putting my 5.3/th350 combo in the car for a test fit to build the exhaust and i have a few questions. im going to be running a 4thgen dash and have a 2001 t/a cluster do i need a 4thgen tank for it to read right? also can a stock 4thgen pump and bucket setup drop into a 3rdgen tank? also where is a good place to get the exhaust manifold flanges cheap i need some to build my exhaust but a local machine shop wanted to charge me $65 a side to make them for me! how will i be able to get my th350 to comunicate with the 4thgen cluster so it reads my mph? thanks guys and yes i searched.
Re: some questions on my swap
The new cluster is expecting the higher resistance range of the newer sender. Swapping tanks is recommended for that. 4th gen sender assy wont fit a 3rd gen tank
A few online stores sell the exhaust flanges, expect to pay about what the machine shop wanted for them. I had good luck using some scrap 1/4" plate and a cutting torch
For the TH350 youll need some sort of electric pick up. You can swap the TH350 tail for a large VSS tail (BOPs had these more often) and use a 4L60E VSS/reluctor. You can keep the cable unit and buy a 2 wire inline VSS and fudge a conversion factor in the PCM. You can also go with a diff mounted reluctor from jagthatrun. Pretty much any method you can get 40PPR to the PCM will net a functional speedo
Why are you running a TH350 over any other 4 speed?

Re: some questions on my swap
The only reason I'm running the th350 is cost at the moment! I already had it with a new converter from when I had my 82 ta. I really want a t56 swap but its out of budget for now unless I can find everything needed for around a grand-1500 in the next few months.

Re: some questions on my swap
well like i said right now money is a issue and the car needs so much work everywhere those are only reasons im sticking with the th350 for the inital swap. im hoping i can aford to swap in a nice 4l60 with stall or t56 within a short time after i get it rolling again but with the car having no interior at all needing the floor pan patched all new suspension paint ect i figured i can deal with the th350 for awhile. i ran it in my 82 for a few years and yeah it got old but i know it will not be there forever.
