GTO LS2 swap won´t start

A few days ago my electrician friend finished up all of the wiring of my LS2/T56 swap into my -89 Iroc. We´ve used a Speartech "J1 Harness" for the J1 gate at the computer, and the rest is stock/spliced into the stock wiring etc. The motor cranks just fine, but there is NO spark, and no fuel going into the cylinder. At least the spark plugs are dry and not smelling gas...The fuel pump runs though, and delivers fuel all the way to the fuel rail.

We tried to scan the computer through the ODB2 port, but it sais "No trouble codes detected"....which sounds really strange to me, since the engine will not start at all...

There are one plug in that is not connected that comes out of the same piece of the GTO harness as the plug in for the MAF-sensor. It has five wires and a black rectangular connector. Does anyone know what it´s for? I suspect that is might have something to do with the ABS-system from the GTO, but I´m not sure.

I would be greatful for some help in this matter. I simply do not know where to start troubleshooting this engine. And as everybody else that has finished their swaps, I´d like to drive it

I´ve read about crank trigger/sensor related problems, but how can I measure/find out if it is something to do with the crank sensor?

Re: GTO LS2 swap won´t start

Call Speartech first

Test the crank sensor by hooking the scanner up and switching to live data. Spin the engine over and watch if there is a RPM change. If it stays at 0, then the sensor is a dud. Before getting too far along, make sure you've got a 58x reluctor and a gray sensor to go with the 58x ECM

Also, check all the minor things like is the ECM getting power, grounded properly, coil connectors connected, plug wires fully seated etc

Re: GTO LS2 swap won´t start

Thanx alot Pocket.
I´ll give Speartech a call tomorrow. Just came back from the garage again. Been working on some interior bits, putting the seats back in etc. Tried to have a look at the Crank Sensor from above. Even though it´s really hard to see, it appears to be a black one on my engine. (from what I can tell from above) Which is really strange since my engine supposedly came out of a 2006 GTO, and should have a grey connector for the 58 tooth ring. I thought all 2006 GTO´s came with the 58 tooth ring right?

Seems to vary with LS2's. Please verify before spending any money. You may have to drop the starter for a better look, esp to peek inside the hole at the reluctor

Re: GTO LS2 swap won´t start

Were gonna try to scan the RPM´s today with my friends scan tool. But he sais that it might not be able to do it with my modern LS2. So I can just hope for now.

Yeah I tried to recheck some old digital pictures that I took of the engine back when I got it from Cleevland Pick a part. But I cant tell from those pics. And I also tried to verify the number of teeth of the reluctor ring from pics I took when I changed the oil pan and pick up tube. But with my luck, those pics were with the baffle plate in the way for the view of the ring itself.....
It feels really strange that if its a black one´, my engine is supposed to be a 2006. I just hope I got the right computer for my engine. If i have a 58 computer and a 24 ring in the engine I´m TOAST!

Is there an "easy" way of via some engine numbers verify what number on the computer I need, and how many teeth the ring is supposed to have?

All I know/remeber is that it is labeled 6MC on the rear of one of my 243 castings cylinder heads....not much for now...

Black CPS body = 24x

http://www.ls2.com/forums/showthread...hreadid=626014

All '05 and '06 GTOs came with 24x LS2 engines. Holden had a significant supply on hand.

Re: GTO LS2 swap won´t start

Thanx alot Mike. I will try to measure it today with a scan tool as in Pockets instructions. Then we will try to measure if there´s something wrong with the power supply to my coils etc.
