Pass side will only line up 3/4. Drill the last one yourself

While you're in there, Id suggest fabbing a simple nut plate because those nuts are a major PITA to get to

Now that's an excellent idea as "PITA" is an understatement. Thanks for the suggestion Pocket.

I hope this isn't too off topic. but i've heard one of the mounts is farther back then the other on the bock of the LSx engines. is this true? which side is it and does the mounts make up for it?

Re: hawks lsx mounts

They're even with each other (more or less), but both moved back on the K-member

LT1 mounts have an even/odd combo. Pass side is the oddball and wont work, use the 3rd gen SBC clamshells to remedy the issue

Maybe GM was planning on doing it different...

Found this pic when sifting through the assembly manual for my '86 this evening. I thought I'd post it for pure entertainment purposes only. I ordered and bought my car brand new and LB9 setup definitely did not come assembled this way:

I can see how it might be more difficult to service with studs set in a plate from the bottom instead of bolts from the top as it was assembled.

Re: hawks lsx mounts

I built a nut plate because a stud plate would be difficult to get by the springs. Either would be easier to use over plain nuts/bolts which were all thats installed in any 3rd gen Ive taken apart. Never ran across the stud plates in that diagram and the PN is for a spacer

I've found the motor mounts aren't so hard if you take a 1 inch hole saw to the top center of the K Member. Then a wrench fits right in to capture the nut on the top 2 bolts. The bottom ones can be reached with a swivel socket.

Ok...this is what I wanted clarification on when I asked a while ago, but I think I was unclear in my question. After seeing K-members in the junk yard I noticed some have the mounts forward on the K, and others are set back on the K.

So if I'm understanding this correctly, all K-members ARE the same, just use the holes that are further back? (oh, and this applies to spohn motor mounts too right?)

What you're seeing at the yards is how the 2.8L/3.1L V6 mounts are rearward, while the 5.0L/5.7L V8 mounts are forward.
The V6 mounts have to come out, the V8 mounts can be used with mount plates if you don't want low-mount a/c
