i have a 91 camaro rs, pulled out 305 and installed a 94 LT1. removed optispark, fuel injection, computer, all that stuff and put in a MSD Pro-billet distributor, 6AL spark box, blaster 3 coil, 8.5 mm wires, and that fancy $300 intake GM makes to run a carb on it and topped it with a holley 650 dp. i got everything working except the alternator wont charge. does anyone know how to wire up the 140 amp alternator from the 94 to the factory wiring in my 91 rs? or can anyone tell me what wires on the alt. need power or need grounding or anything?

Wire it just like the 91 alternator, with the same connector.

thats the first thing i tried, so i thought the alternator was bad so i went and got a new one and having the same problem so i assumed it was supposed to be wired differently. ill take them in to get tested and post back.
thank you

Are you sure you didnt wire it using the LT1 connector ?

There are two ways it will work, either using the stock thirdgen wiring layout, or using the single wire plug to the 4th gen and wiring in a resistor inline, if you use the 4th gen connector and no resistor you'll end up damaging the alternator.

I would say your exciter wire is bad. Thats what happened to mine. Test them for 12V with the ignition on.

Re: carbbed LT1 swap, alternator wont charge
I just fixed a charge problem on mine. I have the 3 plug wire. Battery would only see 8 volts with it plugged in. All wires on alternator read voltage exept brown wire. I cut the brown wire and it now reads 14 on the battery. I guess if your in dash indicator light is blown your system wont charge. Just something easy to check

Love to see pics of your set up, and how you did everything.
