Car craft LS1 camaro article
In the latest issue of car craft they did a spread on bang for the buck swaps. One of which was an '86 camaro which was built with the following parts:
Motor:
-5.3 block bored to 5.7 with LS1 pistons
-5.3 heads with ls1 valves(no casting number given)
-LS6 cam + valve springs
-LS6 intake manifold w/ 90mm throttle body
-stock cast exhaust manifolds
-4L60E w/ stock converter
They aren't clear about how they came up with the power output but they state, 444HP 434ft.lbs. I'm pulling out my
card on this one. I'm trying to get the article scanned but my printer is not cooperating so I'll see what I can do.

Re: Car craft LS1 camaro article
i saw that article, i hate how they half assed the AC job and just left it hanging in there and didnt even cap the condenser, they computer is sitting on top of the strut tower it looks like too, and they claim it has 93 camaro seats when it has the same seats as my 90.... Its a complete hack job imo so i wouldnt be surprised if the numbers are BS

Re: Car craft LS1 camaro article
444 HP at the crankshaft is plausible, if they're using STD correction rather than SAE.
Texas Speed has tested a stock LS1 to make 400 HP, at sTD correction, and the LS6 cam typically shows a 40 HP gain.
Moving on, those seats are definitely third gen, not fourth. Probably a typo, probably '92 seats.
The computer mounting: I would've rotated it 90 degrees, but otherwise it seems good to me.
The problem is that the "tech notes" at the end specifies a custom 2.5" exhaust system. But it doesn't specify "dual". A single 2.5 with no cat and no muff, but with mandrel bends, becomes a restriction above 260 HP ( at the crankshaft )
Lastly, note that the car owner's dad co-owns TPiS, so you can bet that the HP number came from the TPiS engine dyno.
