LT1 1/4 Mile Times
Im trying to figure out if its worth the headache to swap from my weak 5.0 TBI to a LT1. What kind of times you guys running with LT1's?
Mods or no mods?
also on a side note, when swapping to a LT1 / 4l60e what needs to be done with the driveshaft?

Re: LT1 1/4 Mile Times
If you can get it cheap enough yes. But as cheap as LT1's are, 5.3L Gen3 swaps can be had at nearly the same prices in some cases.
I have an LT1 in my car, and I'm happy with its performance.
It runs nearly bottom 13's on crappy, hard, old street tires.

i assume swapping in a 5.3 3rd gen motor is much harder and more expensive though?

Re: LT1 1/4 Mile Times
Mounts can be had from hawks for about $90 I think.
*Found them, $85 on hawks website. http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/82...ountspair.aspx
After that its pretty much a direct drop in, the rest is just the harness and PCM wiring into the thirdgen. The electronic work is about the same between LT1 and Gen3 motors.
Get a Gen3/4L60E pull out from a junkyard with the harness and PCM and you'd have 90% of the parts needed for the swap right there. With some time and reading you could convert the harness on your own. Same as with the LT1 harness.
The big issue is usually accessories and the oil pan. Oil Pans are expensive, and the oilpans aren't just a pan. They are a structural part of the gen 3 engine.

Not really. The Gen 3 harnesses are pretty much stand alone. It basically needs a flash to remove VATS and other equipment you don't install with the engine.

If you can't find it there, then it doesn't exist. Don't wanna make another LTx/LSx swap thread. There are TONS of those, no need to duplicate the info.

Re: LT1 1/4 Mile Times
My buddy's 95 Z28 went 12.96 at 106 on street tires in an automatic with stock stall, 3.73 gears, with most bolt ons and tune. In a thirdgen, low 13's-high 12's should be easily doable in good air with an exhaust/geared/tuned LT1 and with converter/slicks, it should be well into the 12's
