GTO vs Chevy Oil Dipstick??
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it. I bought an '04 GTO (LS2) to put into my '86 IROC. The shop that did the work said I needed the Chevy oil pan & accessories. I know that's true since the GTO is a front sump and the Chevy is a rear. My question is, is the GTO oil dipstick longer, shorter, or the same length as the Chevy one? My problem is this: I periodically checked the oil quantity on my new engine. Everything was fine for approx 7 months. One morning heard a knocking noise. Oil pressure was good, but when I went around a corner it dropped to nothing. Pulled the dipstick and it showed full of oil. Took car to the shop that did the work, he pulled the dipstick and saw that the oil was at least within the hash marks. He told me a couple of days later that he only drained out 2 quarts of oil!! He says since I ran it out of oil, I'm responsible for getting it fixed. I'm thinking that the wrong dipstick was installed, I don't know. If anyone has part #'s of the Chevy and GTO dipsticks, I would appreciate them. I'll be calling the dealer soon. Thank you.

04 GTO would be LS1. Simple check is to look between the PS and alt brackets for the displacement casting. 5.7L is LS1, 6.0L is LS2
Moving on, The dipstick needs to be matched to the pan you're using. Fbody's have the dipstick mounted to a boss in the block. GTOs use a boss cast into the pan and a plug for the block hole giving them vastly different lengths. This is why you were very low and still showed full
Now to answer your question:
