Spareecm -- who's using him?

I contacted him today about getting an ecm for the L33 5.3 / MN12 and hes telling me its gonna be some special order and gonna cost me like $100 more for the ecm, Dan i know your set up is the same did you use them, Jon? BlueZee? 5.7? I know it should be relatively the same tuned ecm for any other non-egr, non-emission, no rear 02, 26LB inj. 5.3 T56....

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

i ended up using Tuned by Frost for my reprogramming. He is SUPER fast (shipped it out the same day he got it from me) and will go over things before any tuning's done. He saved me a lot of headaches by asking about a couple sensors I hadn't even thought of (LS3 map and LS1 tuning dont mix!) or forgot to list. Now I haven't gotten to fire anything yet, so jury's still out on the actual tune, but his service was top notch

I don't have any answers for you, but since Dan typed what he did about his source, I want to give similar praise to my source. His service is truly excellent, and he got it right on the first try, so I expect my LM7 swap to be easy.

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

What harness are you running? are you running an f-body harness? what year?

SpareECM from ebay right? if so, that's who I went with. All I had to do was tell him I needed a 411 PCM tuned for a 5.3 with 2001 Camaro injectors, T56, longtube headers, k&n CAI, delete VATS, delete rear O2's, set rev limiter at 7,000 (personal preference), and set the speed limiter to like 200 mph I think? set cooling fan 1 and cooling fan 2 temps.

I think that was pretty much it, Rodney is a pretty good guy and knows what he's talking about. When I put my car on the dyno, the guy that perfomed my dyno test was pretty impressed with the tune they did in the PCM.

Dan im using a 99 LS1 harness from a trans am which will be mod'ed by Jon, i told him thats all it was like you said above and he said he needed to know more... i think was thrown off by the MN12 i threw in there...

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

I got my ECM from spareecm on eBay, but I didn't have him put a tune on it. I'm not too hip on mail order tunes, I'd rather have someone riding in the car doing a live tune.

I got a vin from an 02 SS from eBay and had spareecm flash a computer to that vin and ship it to me. I think it was $100 with shipping.

that's definitely the plan for me, but my setup's so different from any stock tune that i don't think it would even idle without some kind of adjustment. it may be not be optimal, but probably cheaper than trying to get the car on a flatbed and on its way to the closest LSx tuner

Blue/Dan sounds like a plan, i imagine my L33 cant be much different in Tune from a stock LS1. i used that sentence lightly though.

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

Mine wouldn't idle until my tuner came over, and he couldn't do a full tune until the exhaust was done, and I couldnt drive it to the shop to get the exhaust done because it wasn't tuned, so needless to say I trailered it haha

lucky enough to be here in mass, not too far from Slowhawk performance, one of the better LSx tuners on the east coast. as long as you can limp the car there, your tuning is in good hands

yeah i checked out the website, you know we have ESP right here in Leominster right? I see all the cars they tune flying by LKQ all day, i know they do LSX cuz ive seen a few 4th gens and 5th gens going by @ 90. Funny too because the cops sit in our driveway and wave at the guys testing out the tuned cars. lmao

noted, good to know there's another decent option around. bridgewater's a little over an hour from home (lowell), where as leominster's about 30 min.

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

The PCM guys wont be able to do a perfect tune just from a list of parts via mail order, esp for a mix-match setup like a high compression 5.3 using Fbody parts

Just get a standard flash for a LS1/T56 swap that means emissions and VATS deleted. Itll get you running enough to get to whoever will be doing the final tune

FWIW, the tune doesnt differ between manual transmission types. Same for non-computer controlled automatics like 700R4's and TH350/400's

Agreed, getting a dyno tune etc. is the best way to go over a mail order tune. And yes the transmission doesn't matter T56 or MN12, they both operate the same and have the same sensors/connectors.

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

man im glad i have a buddy that does tuning when mine is completed. he has done a lot of tuning. he even said that frost is pretty damn close with mail order tunes. as a matter of fact frost can unlock pcm's and then tune them.

Or dump several grand on an auto tune system from holley...

still saving for mine, 2k for the TBI version, but I can toss anything at it, and it will take care of its self with a little driving to learn.

Re: Spareecm -- who's using him?

I too used spareecm for my swap.At the time of my purchase I asked for several things to be programmed, vss,my 3.23 gear,ls2 maf tables, tach output, rev limit, and then the normal deletes.I was expecting the ecm to arrive a day or 2 just as i was about ready to fire it up.Sadly I got a phone call from Rodney that he was behind due to alot of lsx swaps being done.

He assured me that the saturday I would have my ecm and he was overnighting it at his expense and had the ecm powder coated any color of choice for the inconvience.

Thats some great customer service and his product was bang on.car runs great on his tune and fired without hiccup.I do recommend him if your in need of an ecm and good mail order tune for the price....cant complain at all.easy guy to talk to aswell.
