5.3 swap
5.3 swap
ok, this is actually going into my 88 chevy half ton, but, i will use it to gain the knowledge to do the 6.0 swap into my 85 T/A with single turbo and t-56.
i an getting a mail order turn from SpareEcm on eBay. And I would like to rework the harness myself. I think it will be very rewarding and i'm very interested in learning how to do it. I do however do have a few questions, and i will try to keep them at a minimum. First of all, I will outline everything about my swap.
I am currently driving a 1988 Chevy half ton with a 4.3 TBI and 2wd 700-r4 tranny. the engine runs rough and the tranny smokes on the highway... i have a girlfriend 300 miles away, and i need a reliable ride to see her.
The hot rod part of it is optional. lol!
I intend to not have A/C, it is a single cab, and the airflow through it is plenty good enough for me being 20 years old. it's doable for now.
i do not want electric fans. I am going to use the stock fan that came on the engine.
I would like to wire a fusebox directly to the harness so that the only hookups i will have will be power, ign and constant hot, ground, and guages.
my problem, and first question, when i called the junkyard about the engine (not a local JY, they are a-holes to me) they said it was from an 01 Tahoe. but when i picked it up they said 02 Tahoe. Will this year difference be a problem with pin outs?
I hope i gave enough information for that question, more shall follow, thank you for reading!

Re: 5.3 swap
Post up on LS1tech, this site is for 3rd gens and info relating to them. A truck engine into a truck is a pretty far stretch, but to answer a few before this gets locked...
Stock truck harness isnt stand alone. You'll have to do some tweaking to get it ready to install. Just adding 12v IGN and the rest isnt enough
01-02 is no problem. Unless you switch PCMs or engine generation (07) everything is pretty much interchangeable. 99-03 is about the same

Re: 5.3 swap
all the wiring info i needed for the engine side of my swap i found here:
http://www.lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm
pocket helped with the car side of things. 2wd makes things nice and simple. a 4l60e should do just fine, but if you can grab a 4l80e, you'll have plenty of room to grow when it comes to power.

Re: 5.3 swap
I just swapped a 4.8 into my 94 GMC and got headers from Schoenfeld, they are full length 1 3/4 with 3 inch collectors, 269 shipped, wish i was so lucky on the third gen:

Re: 5.3 swap
You can pick away, but there in nothing to it, it is carbed, so no EFI and the harness for the trans controller and MSD timing controller is nearly idiot free and you put everything where you like.
