LT1 Swap fuel tank problems!
LT1 Swap fuel tank problems!
Hey guys, Doing a LT1 swap into a '89 that had a 305 TBI in it. We have the new fuel pump for the LT1, but as it turns out "looks the same diameter" and "are the same diameter" are completely different things. So it looks like we need to grab a 4th gen tank from Pick-n-pull (lemons). Question is: will the V6 tanks fit the LT1 pumps? From what I can tell, the mounting points are the same, but from searching it looks like the filler neck might need to be modified. On the off chance I find a car that had an LS1 in it, would that tank work too? Obviously I'd like to find a car that had an LT1, but it's pick n pull....
Any help is much appreciated, the race is soon

You don't use the LT1 pump. You get a aftermarket pump that will flow enuff to feed it like a walbro 255 for the 3rd gen.

Re: LT1 Swap fuel tank problems!
As it turns out, the LT1 pump is only too big because of a silly plastic housing. Once you take it out of the housing, it's identical in shape to the 305 pump, so we just put the LT1 pump and wiring into the housing for the 305 and voila, all is gravy. Thanks for the replies though guys.
Re: LT1 Swap fuel tank problems!
Mostly. Since it's for racing, smog and A/C plumbing are off, plus a lot of vacuum lines and whatnot. It has some Edelbrock longtubes on it, but in terms of fuel, it's all stock.
