Thanks you for the fast response man. I have read that it's ok to use the lt1 fuel tank is this correct? Another question i have heard mixed opinions lt1 manifolds working on a 89 third gen. Is this myth true? Other then this, I'm ready to pull the motor and trans out, and begin the dreaded wiring process

Re: What is this cable, and here is my donar car build sheet.

LT1 tank wont fit, the neck is different than 3rd gen and since the tank is steel, its a little harder to trim. 99-02 Fbodys used plastic tanks with removable necks that can be trimmed down to fit along with a few other mods

Manifolds most likely wont fit but why bother? 1 5/8" or larger headers fit no problem and there are tons of options available for 3rd gen SBCs. They're nowhere near as expensive as LSx headers

Taking the dread out of wiring can be arranged

Thanks for the info will the sending unit fit in my 89 fuel tank? Another question is the donor car came with 2.73 gears, will the 4l60e recognize the 3.23 gears and have the same shift points without any problems?

4th gen senders dont fit 3rd gen tanks

Gear difference will cause your speedo to be off. The trans doesnt care what gearing you have

Re: What is this cable, and here is my donar car build sheet.

It will. If you're already in there, Id stick a 255 in, but the L98 pump will work

TPI and LT1's operate at the same pressure and have similar flow rates

Now i'm pulling the 305tbi wiring harness, i started from the passenger kick panel unhooked the pcu pulled the wires through the fender traced it all the way back to the driver side by the brake booster, where the two alen screws hold what looks to be a fuse box in place? Do i really have to take all of this **** out lights and all just to get the harness out in one piece?

1/4" bolt dead in the center of the C100, unscrew it until it starts skipping then pull the connector off the firewall. The bolt wont come out. Pull the fingers back and split the engine and light halves of the C100. Light half isnt touched for the swap

Re: What is this cable, and here is my donar car build sheet.

It's been a while since i posted but i got the engine bay painted, dropped the motor and transmission right in. I pulled the fuel tank today and i couldn't help but notice that the lt1 tank looks just like my 305 tbi tank, other then the sending unit. I have done a lot of research but cant find out why the LT1 tank wont work? Can i get this 95 LT1 fuel tank and fuel lines to fit in my 89 RS Camaro? It is in way better shape then my stock tbi tank.

The filler neck is about 2" too long or so. And unlike the LS tank, its not removable.

Yes good point i noticed that today, I was thinking of cutting a piece out of the neck and using rubber hose like Chevrolet did on the trucks from 88-93?

I dont see how that could be a problem. Its the same way on my Dodge work truck too.

As for the springs, they will settle quite a bit once you drive it a few miles.

your not going to believe it but i got a the 95 Formula Cat back 80 series Flowmaster exhaust to bolt straight up to my 89 Camaro lol "The golden year". This is with cat deleted but it bolted up?! even the exhaust hanger fits in place. For a 1000$ this has definatly been a 23 year old poor mans build lol. I love it!

Re: 95% done with the Stock LT1

Well two years down the road i can say that the LT1 runs better then ever, no mods done other then a full tune up top notch oil, and a vacuum leak fix and nothing but premium gas. Engine doesn't leak a drop of oil and still makes me happy. I will be updating this thread when i get the M6 to swap.

But there is always a catch i can't go wot with this 4l60e it's 2-3 clutches are shot i think, i say that because if i put the hammer down WOT in 3rd it will kick into (N) and hit the rev limiter hard. but if i ease into it 3/4 of throttle it works ok. I only drive it on the weekends to blast down palm springs, or go to the lake with my brother. The car is limited to fun time only with the occaional drive to work on a clear day otherwise garage kept. This is why I Am so ready for a manual it has got to the point i'm dreaming about shifting gears. That's Me!

Re: 95% done with the Stock LT1

Hi guys so Im new to this forum and have been in the process of doing a motor swap in my 91 c1500. i recently had a 4.3 l v6 tbi and have upgraded to a 5.7 l tpi, the main problem i have run into is the bulk connections for the c100's. t\The one from the truck is smaller than the tpi harness which came out of either an 88 model z28 or an iroc. is there any way i can salvage the tpi harness and use the bulk head from the truck or would i have to completely get a new harness? I have the ecm which pertains to the tpi harness too which i would like to use instead of buying another one.
