Gas tank questions

Hey guys, I'm in the process of putting the moser 9" in my car, and feel it would be a good time to take care of the gas tank situation. My car is a 84 Trans Am. Now it has a 2004 LQ4 with LS3 heads and intake, Custom cam, t56 and will be on a 100 hp shot of spray. Here's my questions.

Is it easier to use a 1984 carbed gas tank or a 99+ plastic tank?

Do I need to run a braided line to run down the track?

Can I run the stock tank with a nice inline fuel pump?

Im going to have Pocket do my harness for me since he did such a great job on my LT1 harness. I'm also thinking of swapping a 4th gen interior into my car while doing my swap/restore.

If I swap interiors and gauge cluster and all that, will all my gauges work? Will I still need to have Pocket do my harness?

Would you rather do the dash swap or would you rather replace all the gauges with a autometer type gauge?

How hard is it to install a autometer setup?

Thanks guys for any help. Im sure there are a million other questions, but I just can think of them right now.

Re: Gas tank questions

i think i can help on a couple questions

you can use the stock tank, but grab yourself a fuel injected sending unit. tbi, tpi, dont matter. you just want one that has provisions for a fuel pump and has threaded connectors instead of the clamp on ones. this will let you keep the stock tank and the stock gauges

i believe rubber lines are frowned upon at the track, so braided is usually the route to go. your carbed lines are only clamped, so fuel injected lines are the way to go if you dont want to go braided from front to rear.

suppose you could do an inline pump instead of in the tank, but its going to be extra work that may not be worth it. there are a lot of good intank options that will pump out plenty of fuel for what you're proposing. check out the fuel section of 'tech, there is a lot of good info over there. if going inline, you'll have to modify the sending unit to have a longer pickup (since the pump's gone), but that's not too hard.

Thanks for all the help sir. I think I will go the route of a new sending unit as that sounds easier. I found out a new sending unit is $200!!!!!!!!. What a rediculous price. Hopefully I can find a complete tank or something on craigslist.

Now does anyone know about my gauge questions or wiring questions?

Re: Gas tank questions

what gauges are you looking to swap to? I'm doing a dash swap myself to a 4th gen setup. the stock ones should work if you get LT1-age (93-97) gauges since they are run by sensors/switches and not by the data bus like the 98+ LS1 ones were

I was thinking of buying a entire 4th gen ls1 car so I could steal the interior and the gauge set up as well.
