83 T/A Wiring

Hey everyone. Not sure if this is where this belongs, but thought I'd start here.

In the spring I started on an 82 Trans-Am restoration project, when I became a member here. Over the last few months I've tinkered with it, got a lot of stuff fixed, and it gets driven now. It's actually a project I started with my father. Well, he picked up a second Trans-Am because it's starting in much better shape than the 82 did. This particular 83 has the T-roof but doesn't have some of the factory options on the 82. But the body on the 83 has fresh paint and a better interior, it's just a better car all around, still has the frame connectors in it, everything's in great shape. Which leads me to my actual question.....

The 83 came less drivetrain, but the previous owner was running an LT1 and 6 speed manual in the car. I believe the LT1 in it was a TPI motor, but I only saw the car when the flatbed dropped it off, which would lead me to believe the car has a 93-up wiring harness. My plan for this car is to install a carbed 350/TH350 combo. Am I looking at a complete harness change, or just in the the engine bay? Basically, can anyone give me some tips on what to look at doing for the drivetrain wiring harness for this changeover? And are there other things I should be concerned about where I'm going to go with a non-computer controlled engine?

Any help is appreciated, you guys have been so much help with the 82 I'm working on as well.

Re: 83 T/A Wiring

these cars are pretty modular when it comes to wiring; one harness on the passenger side for the engine, one harness on the driver for gauges, and one for lighting. Pocket's got some great threads on how to strip down the factory harnesses to bare essentials, take a look around and you should get a good idea what's involved.
