Re: ls1 or 5.3

I'm sure this will get moved (LSx forum section would be better fitting), but the LS1 was 5.7L, where as the 5.3L is, well, 5.3. They are pretty close in power (about 30-50 hp IIRC depending on the year). 5.3 will be usually cheaper, but it will require you get a few of the LS1 fbody parts (intake, accessories, oil pan, exhaust manifolds) to fit in a 3rd gen, so the the price difference will shorten up a bit.

boosted guys like the iron blocks because they are a bit beefier and cheap. also, there is enough meat to the cylinders to bore out the 5.3 to an "iron LS1", but the cost would probably be better spent stepping up to a 6.0

Re: ls1 or 5.3

yea i was doin a lil research and saw that the entakes were different (runner wise) and i was wondering all what else was different between the 2 but im pretty sure i wanna go the 5.3 route for my car and a cam swap maybe some head work and a full exhaust swap and keep the 700r4 and then do my rear end swap and if i can get around 450hp i will be on top of the world happy with my car and i know that should be a prob with the 5.3 lol

Re: ls1 or 5.3

there are plenty of swap stickies in the top of the lsx swap page, and yes ALOT of the ls parts are interchangeable and work in the same form and place.

The X is only a placeholder for the number. Ls1 Ls2 Ls3 etc.

Re: ls1 or 5.3

well you have the lsx block that is with the ls family but a someone that has lsx on the side of a random car would more than likely stand for the whole ls family imo.

Re: ls1 or 5.3

Mounts yes

PCM/harness no. Too many options and variables for a one size fits all answer
