Re: 1989 camaro lsx swap ** Got her home**

Well the 5.3 has been doing great. My brother and i drove the car 1600 miles last weekend on a trip to go pick up a S10 to do a 5.3 swap. I have had no problems at all out of the motor and tranny is has been the best thing i have ever done to a car. Problem now is i have gotten used to the 5.3 power and i am lookin for a little more. I thought about camming it and a few hundred other things but i made up my mind and got me one of these

If i was to do it all over again i would have started with the 6.0. The 5.3 is quick for what it is but it will not hang with the new v8 cars. I know this 6.0 will hang a little better but i dont plan on killing 5.0's and ls3 in it.
My buddy and i will be putting this in the car tomorrow morning, i will be posting lots of pics. I am hoping for this to give me a good jump in power. It will be going in bone stock for now.

Drop a LS3 top end (L92s are a bit cheaper) on it with a mild cam for a pretty serious street engine thats still daily driver friendly

Exactly! We did this swap for a customer on his 2006 corvette: LS3 camaro heads and intake, TSP/Rakich Performance prototype cam (nothing crazy) made 477rwhp through a 6spd auto.

To the OP if you mill the 317 heads .040 they are the same specs as a 243 C5 ZO6 head, then find you an ls6 or ls2 intake and convert to f-body front accessories. My setup in my sig is probably good for 400rwhp/tq with a 5.7 With a combo like that you could be in the 450rw ballpark. Shop around for used parts and you can get off fairly cheap. I think I have some f-body front accessories and ls1 oil pan, pickup tube, and windage tray laying around the shop. I also have a set of brand new LS3 corvette heads and lS3 intake if you're interested. Shoot me a PM if you need anything.
