Good choice they are excellent heads! Always seem to be on some of the fastest cathedral head cars

Thanks, I knew I did make a good choice. Plans are to have the 225's milled to 62cc, install my ls3 valves, they will have powder metal valve guides and the intake will be port matched to the heads.

Re: Trickflow 225 head install

looks like i was alittle over on duration on my intake lobe.. i can barely catch it with my finger nail so ill just run it, no sharp edges to cause bad heat spots. Anyway.. the heads are off and i await the arrival of my trickflows.

What were the 317's milled to? Just curious if having the TFS milled to 62cc would create less PTV clearance? Maybe flycut the pistons a little and raise that CR up

Nonetheless, I don't see a problem being around 500rwhp. Especially not really having a huge cam. Nice work

Re: Trickflow 225 head install

well the 317's were shaved .040 and the tfs heads will be shaved .020ish and the tfs heads are 13.5 degree head vs. the stock 15 degree head. intake valve on the tfs head is 2.055 vs. stock ferra 2.08 valve

LOL I did the same thing on my LS1 and it still runs aces to 7K rpm allll the time so i wouldnt sweat those love taps at all. Goes to show though how crucial good valve springs are. Speaking of which what springs are you going to run on the new heads? I kinda like the PAC 1521 these days

Re: Trickflow 225 head install

As I told my AFR head rep, who needs good valve springs when the pistons close the valves...

While the heads are off Y not just hand clearance the pistons just a bit???
It may save ya if you miss a shift or the trans lets go and over revs the motor..

nasty, you over-achiever....

i haven't even fired mine yet, and you're off to the races with new heads and port matched intake. that thing is going to run awesome.

i wouldn't worry too much about the intake valve clearance. 'bout time for a stroker kit...isn't it?

im not.. like i said i can barely catch my finger nail on the "new valve relief" and the guy i order my heads from said that he was gonna use a spring better for using stock rockers on trickflow heads.

the trickflow heads should have alot more clearance vs. the 317's and they have the rolled over valve which helps alot on ptv clearance. using the same 230/238 cam

stroker kit...hhhhmmmmmm maybe one day. but that'd make me change cams, use bigger primary headers, etc... its gonna stay stock cubes for now.

got the heads and filled the combustion chamber with atf and let them sit overnight and there was no atf in the runner so the 317's are fine.

using oil or even parts cleaner to check for leaks only works when you have a good sized bend an a valve. ive had several heads that didnt leak like that because the valve springs can keep a seal at static bur running there is not enough

best bet is to have the valves checked

how ever those little marks are nothing uncommon for a ls1 or 2

should see what a set of faulty PAC springs did to a set of my heads

Re: Trickflow 225 head install

If the guy I sold the heads to feels the heads are bad and decides to have them checked and it has any bad valves ill have the valves replaced. this motor still made 463 hp and up till I took it apart busting tail, spun by a 489hp procharged mustang 2 weeks ago several times

Clean up that engine bay while the heads are off and you're waiting

Those new heads will definitely add a bunch of power. Looking forward to seeing the results.

now i feel bad for mentioning the fluid test isnt the best way to check for bent valves.. if it ran fine before tear down im sure they are fine.

now if you had issues it would be a different story but im just informing is all

Its perfectly fine man. I wouldnt want anyone selling me some junk, but it ran fine up till I pulled the heads. I believe the heads are fine, but as stated if there are any issues with the heads the buyer finds ill pay to have them fixed.

Looks don't win races, but for all that money under the hood, you have to pop it and be proud of how great it looks

just a 212/218 cam here

errrr......uhhh......exactly!

oh ya my old F13 cam whacked a TON of head/cam swap ls1 back in the day in my ls1. That midrange torque was great, didn't have to spin it to the moon, great driving characteristics and LOVED a bit of a spray.

yeah i was kinda stumped when i had my cam spec'd... but it makes AWESOME midrange, doesnt sacrifice any low end torque or high end horsepower.

Orderd stock 12589227(ls2) head gaskets today and hopefully brian will have my heads in a few days so he can port match them. Thought about painting the intake flat black and the lettering gloss.. I think it would look very nice.
