This deal too good to pass up?

Looking for parts for my car I came across this...

The camshaft is a GM LT4 Hot Cam. It is new, never used, in box.
Spec. 218/228 .525/.525 lift 112 Sep.

Being sold with Camshaft are the following:

-Comp Cams Hi-Tech Stainless 1.5 roller rockers. Light use on the rockers, all excellent condition.
-Cat Performance LT1 style fluid Damper
-Holley GM Intank Hi-Press/Hi-Flow fuel pump - NEW
-GMPP Hi-Volume Oil Pump SBC/LT1 - New

Everything listed is $500.00 together.

I wasn't planning on upgrading the top end of my LT1 until next summer because I just want to get my car driving for the summer. But is this deal too good to pass up? Keep in mind I live in Canada so performance parts are a little harder to come by and usually cost a little more. Thanks a lot.

Update: Finally got my engine and trans removed from my '97! .. Bad news, the flywheel, clutch and slave are shot.

What are your goals? Are you planning on using all those parts? Personally, im looking at it like this...you're paying $500 for an LT4 hot-cam. Thats a lot of money.

Wheres the valvetrain? you need upgraded valvesprings to handle the cam. Are you going to use that fuel pump? Don't waste your time on a high-volume oil pump. You will drain the oil pan REAL fast in the high RPM's. Stock replacement or hi pressure pump is all you need, not high volume.

The fluid dampener is a nice piece but again, not necessary.

When my LT1 was all stock with the exception to a comp cams SBC OE roller cam swap with similar specs to the LT4 hot-cam, my LT1 made more HP and more TQ then all the LT4 cammed LT1 cars at my local F-Body group's dyno day last summer. Most power any of those LT4 hot-cam guys put down was 332rwhp and 340rwtq. Thats full bolt-ons, long tubes, and tune.

My LT1 had a Comp Cams XR270 in it which is a SBC OE roller cam. 218/224 @ .050, .495/.502 lift, 110LSA. I dont have all the bolt-ons. Stock pulleys, stock accessories, stock mechanical water pump, just long tube headers, a carb conversion and HEI distributor. 341rwhp, 347rwtq, thru 4.10 geard 10-bolt on 18" C5 Wagon wheels. I also trapped a best of 111MPH in the 1/4-mile with that setup, untuned.

What im really trying to say is, the LT4 hotcam is old technology. There's much better designed cams out there these days that can produce same or better results with less duration and easier on the valvetrain.

So, if you're buying the cam just cause it looks like a good deal because it comes with all those other parts, don't do it unless you plan to actually use it all. Otherwise, you have much better options out there for a cam for less money. I picked up my LE custom grind for $200 shipped to my door, practically brand new.

Good luck!

Re: This deal too good to pass up?

My goals for this year was to just get the car up and running so I can enjoy it. The plans are to upgrade the top end next winter after I save up some cash. It's not often a good deal comes along and I was just hoping to save a little money now, kind of like investing, ahhaa. I see what you are getting at now, that's why I wanted some professional input before I went to the bank. Thanks for your help.
