coolant temop gauge

Hi I did a ls1/t56 swap in my 92 camaro rs. I got all my gauges working except for temp gauge. the ls1 temp sensor in driver side head is a two pin sensor and both wires go to pcm i believe. what do I do to get the stock temp gauge to work? I heard about running a three temp sensor out of a 98 ls1 but heard the gauge might not be accurate. Any suggestions? all help is welcomed. thanks

Re: coolant temop gauge

the 98 sensor is going to be as accurate as that gauge can be. if you want to stick with the stock gauge and just know that its a general idea about the real temp, it should be fine. you can still check it against what the ecm is actually reading with a scanner and just kind of know there is a mental adjustment to make when looking at the gauge.

i think if you really want to be accurate you're gonna need an aftermarket gauge anyway, which may or may not be able to run off that 98 sensor.

98 sensor on the stock gauge isnt too far off on temps.mine is with 5-7* off what the pcm sees. Not a big deal. The problem with these old gauges is they are old an worn..slow.

Re: coolant temop gauge

Just to add something else to this I ordered a 98 Camaro Z28 temp gauge from Advance Auto and when it got here the guage was the same 2 wire as I already had. For whatever reason when they looked up a 98 Camaro it was wrong. I had to order a 98 Pontiac Formula guage to get the correct 3 wire one. The BWD part number is WT5121.

Re: coolant temop gauge

I guess I will be going with the three wire sensor. It's gm part number 12551708 and the connector is Gm number 12102748 for anyone wondering. The connector is the same as a tps sensor FYI

Re: coolant temop gauge

have them check under the 98 Trans Am; I've heard a couple people have issues with searching by Camaro at certain part stores. Should be BWD part number WT5121

(oops, missed post 2 back)
