How much to offer for overheated LT1?
oh wise ones....
I can purchase an LT1 out of a 97 Trans Am. It is complete with PCM and harness.
The seller says that it was overheated has has been damaged. I asked specifically about the heads and he said his mechanic told him the heads were not warped or damaged. He said he did not understand what the mechanic said in regards to the damage to the engine, but they installed a replacment rather than fix this one.
I see iron-head LT1s on ebay for around $550 that are running.
LT1 rebuild kits are $500 to $600 on Summit
How much do you guys think it would be worth? This would be my first engine rebuild so I am a novice. Should I just offer what I know I can part it out for? Or is the potential downside just too large?
Thanks in advance.

Unless the engine has been taken apart and inspected, there is no way anyone could tell what kind of damage has been done to the heads or any other part of the engine.
You're basically buying a PCM and harness with some (potential) scrap metal thrown in. A couple hundred, I'd say.
