Should I be able to flash SES codes with 94/95 harness and ECM?

I have what I think is a 95 ECM and harness, but I am not 100% sure - the person I bought it from said it was a 95.

I think I have the ALDL wired correctly:
  • ALDL pin M goes to the tan wire on pin 30 on the blue ecm connector
  • ALDL pin B goes to the white w/ black wire on pin 20 of the blue ecm connector

The SES light is on when the car is on. I tried grounding the wire that goes to aldl pin b and then turning the key to the on position. The ses light does not come on(actually it flashes on very briefly) and the fans come on. I have read some info (shbox.com) that says I cannot flash codes for 94 - up ecms. Is that what the problem is?

Will a scanner be the only way to pull codes?

Yep scan tool only, and only certain ones will actually do it.

Yes, but for 95 they switched to a 16 pin ALDL connector so they could use the newer scanner (OBD2), but it was still OBD1. You may need to switch to a 16 pin ALDL to use a handheld scanner since you think the computer is a 95. If it is a 94 you should be able to get away using the stock 12 pin ALDL.

If he wants to use most handhelds it would need the 16 pin.
