what torque arm should i use ?

I have a lsx/t56 in my 1992 z28. I want to go long tubes from Hawks. I was thinking of using the BMR track pack TA. Will this be ok on the street, or it will it be too much noise from vibration ? thanks for any advice

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

I am also needing to make this decision now as well. With the longtubes and this swap, I have only found BMR's track pack, and the jegster torque arm as viable options. The jegster arm has a plate that mounts to the trans tunnel with a fixture to mount the end of the torque arm onto, and is much cheaper. I am just not sure about the strength of the sheet metal in the tunnel taking the torque from the rear axle versus a crossmember like the BMR track pack, but would not ha g low like the BMR one.

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

I used a Spohn Torque arm and cut their mount up and welded it to a Hawks piece. There are pics of it in my swap thread and it was not too hard to do. I am running 1 3/4 longtubes with a 3 inch collector and this set up and have plenty of ground clearance.

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

I have the BMR trak pack on my car. It works well, but it the crossbar is the lowest point under my car and I tend to snag it on everything.... lol

My only real issue with it is clutch changes. There is just enough room to pull the trans clear of the bellhousing and thats it. So when you are doing it on your back in the driveway, you gotta get the trans out from under the car. Its a pita when you are by yourself, especially getting it back onto the jack then into the car!

I remember a torque arm that mounted to the trans tunnel itself, and acted like a driveshaft loop. It must be the Jegster tq arm mentioned above. I might look into that as an option to improve ground clearance.

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

i have used both the bmr track pac and then changed to the jegster.

The bmr worked ok, but it sits too low and i was bottoming out and i couldn't stand it

i love the jegster, it mounts secuely in the tunnel and is out of the way, i am running 600 rwhp with my ls3 type with tvs2300 supercharger

i also have spohn and umi torque arms while i was deciding on what to do once i decided the bmr had to go... in the end they were going to take space needed for the long tubes exhaust and that is when i found the jegster

i will be using the jegster for my other builds

I've had way too many combos, and the combos themselves may have been the problem.

If this is just a street car, or if you're keeping the 10-bolt rear end, then I'd say use a tranny mounted torque arm. The Hawks crossmember will handle it.

My problem with the Jester was probably due to the rear end I had and the mount it used - Quick Performance 9" with its TA mount that allowed side-to-side movement. With sticky tires at the track, it bent that poor Jegster. It also busted a BMR Trak Pak at the adjuster link.

I'm using the Trak Pak cross bar with a 9" TA from SW now. Very stout piece, but as mentioned the cross bar is the lowest point in the car and negotiating speed bumps (even with an unlowered car) is a challenge.

If you plan drag strip time with sticky tires with this car, you'd better be planning on a stronger rear end. If that's the case, then a longer TA will work better than a short one like the Jegster, unless you do other suspension tuning to compensate for the load being on the back of the car.

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

Is the jegster arm adjustable? It doesn't appear to be from the pictures. Seems like adjustability would be a good feature to obtain after swapping to drive lines with aftermarket mounts and such that never were intended for ours cars. I have a hard time believing you can bolt on a fixed torque arm and have pinion angles correct after so many components have been changed.

40095 for unadjustable, 40097 for adjustable. http://www.jegs.com/i/Jegster/550/40097/10002/-1

I used the unadjustable because I had already broken the adjusting link on the BMR, and I could adjust the angle with the QP link.

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

thanks for the replies guys. I am concerned about ground clearance and room near the trans xmember for my long tubes and y pipe and torque arm. My car will be mostly for the street with an occasional trip to the track. Anyone else on here have some opinions on the Jegster ? thanks again

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

Ive got the BMR Trac Pack and its alright. Ground clearance isn't too bad, Ive never bottomed out on it. Running the exhaust can be tricky, but not impossible. In the future I'll be modifying the hump in the bmr crossmember to allow more room for the exhaust. Running 2.5 duals right now, but should really be running 3in duals.

If I had to do it all over again I'd either; modify the crossmember before hand, or incorporate a torque arm mount to a beefed up transmission crossmember.
*If your lowered though I wouldn't recommend the BMR Trac Pack*

Heres a pic to give you an idea of what you have to work with.

wow, looks good. that does look like the lowest thing under the car. What sub frame connectors do you have on that car ?

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

I have used a BMR Trac Pack on a friends 4th gen. It was okay. It was on the car when he bought it, but the guy who owned the car before him installed it wrong so we cut it off and fixed it. He hated it and ended up buying a Spohn Torque Arm. His hung really low and would drag and hit on alot of bumps on a stock height 4th gen. He is really happy now with the Spohn piece. I would say if ground clearance was an issue and it usally is then try to stay away from the Trac Pack.

I see you rotated the crossmember a little to get more ground clearance. That's not a bad idea. You could probably gain more clearance between the components if you joined the two exhaust pipes in front of the crossmember and had a single tube going over the crossmember (assuming you weren't going for duals on back).

You can tweak these things to obtain maximum possible ground clearance with the Trak Pak. Just don't weld anything up until you have it all set.

If you go 9", you may want to consider a S&W Race Cars 9" setup. http://www.swracecars.com/store/Bolt...70=45-450.aspx Their torque arm is pretty sweet. That's what I ended up putting in my '82 LS1/T56 (though not their housing, just the 9" mount and torque arm).

Re: what torque arm should i use ?

thanks everyone, i think i am leaning toward the jegster TA after reading everyones replies. I also read alan91z28's build and really like his photos of the jegster.
