lt1 4l60E neutral position sensor
ok, been a while since i've posted about my motor swap... quick question.
motor and trans came out of a 95 caddy fleetwood. runs fine, goes in forward and reverse, but won't shift correctly. it goes from 1st to 3rd and no OD or 2nd.
things to know.
1. i haven't installed the speedo sensor wiring yet, and i figure that's part of it. (don't ask... no reason to explain in detail why this isn't done.. and i need to put it on a lift to fix it. )
2. there is NO neutral indicator module (thingy (black box)) on the side of the transmission, and no wiring from the original harness working its way back down to it where one should be(!!!!) which leads me to believe the caddy had one in the DASH that whoever yanked this motor was, forgot to pull out, or knew he couldn't use and didn't care.. ugh... so... IF this one needs it, then, i have more wiring to figure out.
i'm about 85% sure the transmission itself is in good working order, but being electronic, i can only assume that the two things i mentioned would affect it's ability to shift.........
right??????????
what else am i not thinking about? any other sensors or random crap that i need to install? obviously, the big round plug is installed.
did this exact year make and model even NEED the neutral thingy?
Any and all useful info is always appreciated!
THANKS!

ok, so, i think that particular car didn't need a neutral safety switch, so, i'm back down to the
"the speed sensor isn't plugged in, will that make it unable to shift" scenario
and i'm also curious about how to go about making the 91 RS speedometer work with this setup..... what is everyone doing for that?

i think there are 2 "shift sol" fuses in the fuse box... are they both good? you might have a bad fuse on the circuit that controls the 1-2 and 3-4 shifts..
find a wiring diagram online- it will tell you which wires from the ecm need to go to the neutral safety switch, which is mounted on your stock automatic shifter.. i think you only need one to tell the ecm when the shifter is in park so it can engage the low rpm rev limiter (but you can probably do without this feature). the actual neutral safety switch is wired into the starter trigger circuit from the ignition switch on the column to the purple wire that goes to the solenoid on the starter and the ecm doesn't need to "see" that one.

Re: lt1 4l60E neutral position sensor
i do know that he did something to the fuse box, but i have a feeling it had something to do with injectors.
i'll look into this and ask him...
so what you mean though is if the fuse go, your shifting is sol... just kidding...
i have the original fuse box for the 95 caddy as well, but i don't have the cover with the labels and such. i'm sure i can google that (i will right now)
//
heh... no go on the google thing for internal fuse box, and under hood box doesn't show sol fuses.. hmm
