ecm gauges
ecm gauges
I did search, but I didn't find what I was looking for. I have a gen iv 5.3L. Is it easier to go with a drive by wire throttle body and a 2002 4th gen gauge cluster? I don't want to over simplify, but is it "plug and play" to connect the ecm to a ls2 throttle body, electric accelerator pedal, t56 electric speed sensor, and an ls1 gauge cluster? Thanks

Re: ecm gauges
simple answer would be no for plug n play.can you do it..yup but going to take a lil extra effort.really matters what ecm/harness you plan on using aswell

Re: ecm gauges
i'd just run the gauges the old school way- without the ecm. the only things that should hook the ecm to the dash is the ignition switch, ALDL port, and check engine light..

There are multiple ways to do the wiring and swap into these cars, and many work well so please just take this as my personal opinion. Throttle operated throttlebody system is easier to work with, less wiring, no need to locate a TAC module or figure out how to fit the large pedal assembly under the thirdgen dash. Guages can be as simple as using factory thirdgen guages and modifying thirdgen senders to fit on the 5.3.
Unless you pay good money to send out your harnesses to be converted, I wouldn't plan on much being plug and play, but with the info here it is very manageable.

Thanks - that's good info. I'm sure I'll be able to visualize what needs to be done once I remove the old engine and open up the dash. I'm a little concerned about adapting the throttle cable to the new engine and about determining which wire goes with each gauge. Going with different gauges, though, would also present challenges. Like documenting the car's milage in a legal way in case I sell in the future.

Post number 4 has 4 separate links that specifically deal with wiring and are extremely helpful. It's a lot of reading, but if you go over them A few times, man things will make sense, and the rest will probably also become clear once you begins wiring. There plenty of us here to help when you get stuck as well.
