Real simple TONS OF WELDING GRINDING AND BODYWORK !!! LOL! we have done alot of engine bays here for customers , best way is to COMPLETELY strip from doors/fender gap forward , not the doors but everything forward, sand or media blast ( I prefer FINE sand ) weld, and grind ALL seams , body work and paint! just be patient as is alot of work.
Thanks,Bruce

Bruce, how hard was it to load and unload the body on your trailer? I've been wanting to send mine to the body shop to get painted the same way you did. But I haven't found a way to load and unload the body without tearing something up. I have the same kind of trailer too... Sick build though!
We made Dolley and jigs and we have a fork lift here too! jut be patient and you will be fine ! we would load this car then support at four suspension points for the ride to and from as the convertibles tend to flex a little!.
Thanks,Bruce

Awesome, thanks Bruce. I'm going to fabricate something similar to what you use to move my car around my shop. Seems like stripping them all the way down is the way to go for the best quality paint job. Love the car your building, can't wait to see it!

Just now noticed this thread and Wow at how similair this build is to mine with neither seeing each others. Also funny as that my car was orginally bought from Bruce MANY years ago and has completly transformed into something diffrent since then just as the quality and extremeness of there builds has intensified.
Bruce, Why the single single intercooler and not a dual-in single out?
Also althought the IROC is way diffrent than when I bought it from you oh so many years ago I still tell people the story of driving from Virginia Beach to Easly TWICE because of the love at first site. It is awesome to see you guys stepping it up with every build. Not to thread jack but I figured you might enjoy couple pics of the IROC now. Hope to see you at a show soon Bruce and catch up.

Of course I remember you and the car and have actually followed it some what on the site. To be honest this car always was special to me as it was the last car Neil and I did together before his death in 05. Car is looking killer!!
We went with the single in and out inter cooler as we have done it on several 4th gen cars we've built and its worked great and I think it is a cleaner look and I am VERY picky about the aesthetics of the build, the car has come a long way and still has a long way to go
With the car being a manual it is VERY hard to plant the big power , hopefully will be over 1000 on dyno and probably turn it down to around 800 or so on the street as big power on the street can get you in trouble
Your car is going to haul a?? with the auto Have you made any passes in it yet ? Again thanks again for keeping her alive and making it alot more of a animal What hood are you going with ? I LOVE THE WHEELS!!
Be safe and hope to see you at a event next year !
Thanks Bruce

No passes yet as we are putting the final touches on the car this week. A good friend of mine is the owner of Hi-Tech Tuning and without him pushing me the last few months I'm not sure the IROC would of made it this far. We should have it at Indy for the LSX shootout and then at MIR for the Import Vs Domestic Shootout first weekend in Novemeber and really turn it up then.
I almost went the same route with the single single intercooler because I still have the intercooler that you guys put on the car oh so many years ago but found a great deal on a 6 core that we have in there now and was able to make it look good without a bunch of dumb piping in the way. I've followed alot of your builds and always love seeing one of yalls cars in a magazine. Hopefully mine will be in one very soon.
As for a hood... Well in about 2006 I bought a SS hood from you guys, painted it and had the scoop itself painted in gloss black and looked killer on the car. With the Edelbrock Pro-Flo intake it still fit with only minor shaving. I felt that even with the Holley intake it would fit and maybe with some minor fiberglass work... But after moving the car to my shop to work on it with it on the lift I pulled the hood out and sat it in my front yard to put in the back of my silverado SS to take up there and it was stolen right out of my front yard. Will be hard for anyone locally to ever use it because of the trimming I did to it for intake clearance but its been almost a month and it has not turned up.
So I'm in the market for another hood, just not sure if I want to try the SS hood and potentially have to cut a hole in it. Also been looking at the Sunoco hood as its just diffrent enough. Last might just be a normal cowl hood and cut it up to make it unique. Currently it looks like though it'll get either a Daytona hood or cut up a stock fiberglass hood for the time being.
If nothing else I might come down that way to "test fit" some hoods late this year/ next year. Would love to see what the latest projects are.
BTW did you ever get your corvette done?
Take care Bruce,
Stephen

Got any details on the rear end mods? I see the control arms are moved in, panhard bar mount is different, and the shock/coilover mount on the rear is different. I'd love to know more about this!
Also, what size tires are in this pic? If those are already 315's, you can obviously go WAY bigger.

Oh, this is just beautiful... I actually like the Olive Green on the hotside piping. This build makes me want to go for twins even more. I can't wait for more updates.

Hey Bruce,
Do you know where you can get front frame rails from the transmission to the firewall area? Because the swap headers from you are rubbing on the passenger side and shop here had cut the frame and noticed and looks like crap !

Do you think rear sub-frame strength was compromised from all the cutting and reshaping? Looks a little thin in some spots...
Also curious to see completed down pipe routing...

Where can I find out more about the rear end mods? Specifically the panhard bracket and coilover/control arm bracket.

Re: HAWKS 408ci LSX Twin Turbo Convertible Formula Build w/ Pics
I am curious what ya did to move the control arms in, what brand they are. Looks like a very good build, and idea of those big meats on the back is awsome. Very intersted in how that panhard bar will effect handling.
