TPI or Carb car?
I haven't really posted about my 83, but it was sitting in my yard and was hit in the rear and totaled. Well I got 3800.00 and then 400.00 to get the car back. Well anyway, I'm looking for a new car. I want to eventually go LSX/T56. I've found 2 cars, one TPI/auto and the other LG4/auto. Both cars are the same in condition, price and option, except one is TPI and the other is carb.
Which would be a better start to a an LSX swap?

Re: TPI or Carb car?
I've got an 84 that was originally carb and swapped in a LT1. Because it was an early carb car it didn't have wiring for many things FI engines use..... such as Fuses/Relays for fuel pump, injectors, water Pump, cooling fans and so on. Later cars might have more 'wiring' available for some of these things. ( I built a custom under-hood fuse/relay center to overcome this. )
Also worth mentioning; Carb car fuel lines run to the pass side,..... FI car fuel lines run up the drivers side. ( I swapped the stock carb fuel lines to stock FI lines when the in-tank fuel-pump got installed. )
P.S. Sorry to her 'bout your 83 !!

My plan it to drive whatever car I buy for awhile before I go LSX. If I go with the LG4 car, I'm going to swap the 334 L69/T56 from my 83 into it. If I buy the TPI I just going to swap in the T56 and just do the suspension with all the parts I have for my 83.
John, Thanks for the condolences on the 83. It's upset me pretty bad.
Re: TPI or Carb car?
From a conversion perspective, the TPI car is preferred because it has amble wiring/fuses in place already and an EFI fuel sender
Carb cars require a stand alone harness with their own fuseblock and the fuel sender can be modified or replaced with a newer version, so no big deal. I wouldnt give a second thought to fuel line type or location. I dump all the hardlines on my conversions for 100% braided rail to tank. For those that dont swap, the fuel rail can be flipped 180* on nearly all LSx intakes, so dr/pass fuel is a non-issue
It comes down to which is a nicer car?

Both cars are in the same condition. Both have super clean interiors, but both cars have smalls cracks in the dash, but I have a mint one in my 83, both cars have weak paint on the hood and top, both could use weather stripping, I hate the wheels on both, I can get either car for the same money. It just boils down to ease of future mods. This is just a toy, I have daily drivers, but I learned with my 83, its cheaper and easier to buy a better car up front.
Re: TPI or Carb car?
All things equal, Id go with the TPI car. The carb engine is worth scrap metal where the TPI is worth a few bucks. Hopefully its a 90-92 camaro for the electric speedometer and SD harness. Helps in the long run with either more money for mods or more left over at the end
