Reusing stock 3rd gen P/S Pump/Alternator?
Reusing stock 3rd gen P/S Pump/Alternator?
Hello all.
Newish to the boards. I'm in the research phase for doing the famed LS swap into my 92 with a 4.8 and I have a couple questions that the search feature didn't answer.
I've compiled quite a collection of links, sites, and threads on this subject (I'd say 80% of them from here) and one thing I don't recall being mentioned was reusing the stock P/S pump and alternator from the 305 with the LS swap. Has anyone done this? I know you need new brackets (frankly, regardless of trying to reuse the old stuff, swapping with the truck parts around or putting F-body accessories on, it needs new brackets), but the price of some of these brackets are ridiculous now! Not to mention prices have skyrocketed for everything else coughcough*LS1/LS6 intake* coughcough.
My old pump and alt worked great and while I have just worked out a deal for all new f-body accessories, I'm wondering if trying to fab brackets or find them might be better?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as we go, but this site is a frickin awesome wealth of information. All I need now is money lol!

Re: Reusing stock 3rd gen P/S Pump/Alternator?
I did just that, search for budget 5.3 swap
Its not easy and for a repeat, Id just get another S10 alt/northstar pump for a Fbody accessory system

If anyone did it, it would be you Pocket. lol
Honestly, moot point now. Have a guy that still owes me money in the parts industry, so I'm getting a brand new 4.8 starter, and 02 F-body alt and P/S pump. Saved myself well over $160 and he gets to abolish his debt! lol
