BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Engine + much more :)
Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Long time coming
Even though I was only able to drive mine for 28 miles before it blew, I can tell you the difference between the 305 and just my 4.8 is staggering. The 305 is a torque-y little thing, but I was never satisfied with it. My latest iteration of the 4.8 is going to be a monster compared to it.
Low miles just mean a little more $$ from someone that needs it. Even stock, the LS1 and truck motors, let alone the LS3, are world's ahead of the SBC.

How do you like the Ground Control weight jacks? I installed the UMI rear coilover kit and am thinking about Steve Spohn's coilover kit for the front end. How does that compare to weight jacks?

Love them! The car is really stays really flat and bites hard. I got this thing sitting low, so the looks are pretty damn mean too! Personally I will end up converting to a rear coil over set up at some point when I mini-tub for wider rear tires. The front coil over will get in the way of running a wider tire. I'm not sure if my 275's would fit with a coil over, so its a no go for me at this time. The ride quality is pretty good too even considering I went with a 1050# front, and 275# rear spring. I would recommend them to anyone!

Yeah I'm thinking about the Ground Control kit with yellow Koni's on the front. I'm just concerned about getting the whole suspension dialed in for my occasionally aggressive driving style.

It sure is different driving it with all the additional attention the stickers create. I have never installed a sticker on my car until recently so yeah its been kinda a fun change. As for showing them with it, there is logical reasoning behind it. Just incase the stickers damaged my paint when removed, this is the only show I cared about this season, so no sense finding that out before the show lol. No additional prizes. Lots of pictures, and the little kids seemed to like it even more haha!
www.watsonstickers.com Pretty sure that is the site.
Thanks brother! Motivation to keep making it better!

Well I haven't made much progress on getting this installed. I bought another convertible and have been busy showing and racing this thing.
After talks from some friends with more experience than I... I ordered up an Improved Racing trap door style oil pan baffle for my fbody pan. I don't see me racing this car any less with the new motor and I wanna make sure it keeps oil pressure as much as possible no matter how long or tight the turn is.

Well, I would like to thank you for doing practically everything I was planning on doing to my T/A... Our $ is at like .76 US so I'm not buying anything until that changes.
Planning on an AI set up, long tubes, and will likely use my LS6 intake, I like your valve covers and coil relocation kit so I might steal that idea lol. I'm assuming you're also getting a better fuel pump? Using 4th gen tank?
I'll be doing C5 brakes, and I'll be building an 8.8 hybrid. I have this noise when I'm really on it, and I swear it sounds like the gear teeth chattering... Keeps me from going all out to the floor, which even with a stock LS1 is a blast!

Hey your welcome! haha! Yes I have a Racetronix set up with the hotwire kit sitting in a box waiting patiently. I'm not building for emissions or anything, so I am actually going to keep my 3rd gen tank.

Well after a discussion with a fellow road racer/autocrosser I was advised that the factory windage tray in the LS1's are know for starvation on heavy corners, especially long sweeping corners... Welp went a head and ordered a problem solver for that.
Improved Racing trap door style windage tray. So the pan is coming back off. Better now while its still on the stand than in the car

You really should consider their thermostat controlled oil cooler block and an Accusump if you plan on racing it hard without converting to a dry sump style system though.
Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Long time coming
There are 6 or 7 bolts that hold the tray in the pan. Remove them from the factory piece, pull the factory tray out, insert the new tray and put the bolts back in. Pretty simple with the engine out of the car where it's easy to remove the pan.

Learn from our blown engines. That motor had other issues as a used motor but the learning went into bulletproofing the new build. If we get another shot at the high bank NASCAR oval, we'll be there.

I would love too, but just not in the cards right now. I have a lot of other projects on my hands, but might be a good addition in the future. I don't plan on racing full time, but if there is an event within a few hours I will probably be there.
I have taken it out to the box 3 times to get started, and somehow keep working on my convertible... The problem with having more than one lol! Tom's description is pretty much what I plan on!
YEP!

Thank you. Itching to get really going on it. Stack of parts and motor in the corner is driving me nuts. I wish I could buy time haha! I wish my garage at home was this big.

I like the teal on the motor. If you would have done the whole block like you were thinking, that might have been a bit much. This makes it look real sharp. I say keep it.

Well the plan is its gonna be there, so I guess we will see how it looks all together. Yeah the teal block, heads, accessories would have been crazy. Pretty sure keeping this clean will be a pain enough haha!

Re: BADNBLK's 91 Z28 LS1 swap... Long time coming
I like the scheme you've got going.
I was concerned with the paint not allowing the coils to cool down enough (I am assuming the thick metal piece is a heat sink) so I didn't paint mine... But maybe I will.
Also now pretty sure I'm doing a coil relocation as well, I've seen it a few times and I like the look... I still have a few too many projects to finish up and I'm moving in the spring to a new province with different vehicle inspection rules.
