Help me select a FPR

Hi guys

My fuel pressure regulator went out a few days ago and I thought this would be a good opportunity to begin preparing for future engine upgrades. In particular I plan on running an LSX variant motor with a twin turbo setup. I have not settled on any of the specifics other than shooting for around 800RWHP. I know that means an upgraded fuel system hence my question.

I’m currently running a Holley 670 with a stock in-tank TBI pump. The regulator is a Summit return style set at 6psi. My thought was to, at the very least, upgrade the regulator to something that could go down to 6psi so I could use it right now but still be able to handle the future system which most likely will consist of dual Walbro 255s and set for the PSI needed for my HP needs (I’m not yet sure what PSI that actually is).

So I’m guessing I need something that can go from 6 to maybe 50 psi? Does such a regulator exist?

I have an Aeromotive that has two springs, one for high EFI pressures and one for low carb pressures.

Re: Help me select a FPR

I'm in the middle of an LS swap and our goals seem to be very similar.
I bought a Aeromotive Universal Bypass Regulator 13129 for my setup. The psi range is only 30-70 though. I'll have a plastic LS1 tank, dual pumps or one 400lph pump and Holley EFI Fuel Rails 534-209.
Planning to have 8an feed line to a Y-block and then 8an line to the front of each rail. 6an lines from back of rails to the regulator and then a 6an return line to the tank.

I run the same as battman.Inexpensive and reliable, should easily support your goals for the future. Your going to want to be in the 55-60psi range for efi. For the price of pumps...you can do dual 450s,or a single 450 and 255 secondary

Re: Help me select a FPR

five7kid - That's the exact pump I was targeting. Thanks for confirming I was on the right track.

battman - I plan on getting an LS1 tank as well but haven't figured out what intake or rails I'll use yet. You stated you'll use "8an feed line to a Y-block and then 8an line to the front of each rail. 6an lines from back of rails to the regulator and then a 6an return line to the tank." Wouldn't that put the regulator after the rails therefore negating any "regulating" it would do? Again, I'm new to the EFI stuff so forgive me if I misinterpreted your comment.

86White_T/A305 - I mentioned dual 255s because I've read lots of people use them and a few companies even sell complete setups. Would the 450s be overkill or harder on the regulator/require bigger lines? I want to build for all possibilities but don't want to spend money just for fun. Not actually sure there's a price difference though.

Re: Help me select a FPR

There are many ways to skin this cat.Id use -8an for everything. The nice part about that regulator is you can use it for boost reference if need be.Id much prefer to have more available pump intank and avoid having to go back in there and worry about the regulator.Which will be fine with dual pumps running all the time or have the secondary pump activated on high boost only.

Im using stock rails so its easy to setup the regulator. On aftermarket rails..you can plumb it a few different ways. Some will argue before or after the rails..to crossover the rails or not etc.

Re: Help me select a FPR

I'm going after the rails with mine. Like 86White said, some will argue, and I think majority seem to place it after. It's still regulating and you always have full flow to the injectors. I'm running a -10 up front and -8 back (bought a used system), or else I would have probably done 8 up front. My system is overkill for my hp (340 in tank and Aeromotive Pro Series pump) but I'll never have to upgrade again. Do it once anticipating more hp down the road, especially with boosted applications.

Also, guy on LS1TECH sells dual 450's ready to drop in plastic tanks or there's a DIY on running duals both here in the Power Adder forum, or on LS1tech in fuel injection forum.
