4th gen ls long tubes in third gen?
Will 4th gen ls1 long tubes fit in a third gen with an ls? I know they'll bolt to any ls engine but will they physically fit in a thirdgen swapped? I'm thinking about swapping a 5.3 in my firebird and looking for some cheap headers. Thanks

They will fit if you cut and reweld to aim the drivers side collector inboard.
You can get cheap stainless headers from others that wil fit, the economy ones hawks sells can be had from racing innovation & supply and some others for a lot cheaper. Speed engineering has them also and IMO are superior to the RI&S

Our third gens were the only gen to have the subframe rails taper in at the rear of the engine, so we have header fitment problems the other generations don't have.

Four sets seem to fit for long tubes. Holly Blackheart, Racing Innovation, Hawks Stainless Works, and speed engineering. Only ones that fit without major complications. The holly set fits like a glove but it's $$$, same with the Hawks. Dropping a grand for them.

Cross off the Racing Innovations they fit like crap and are too close to the subframe rails, touching on the right side and about 3/8ths on the left side. The flanges look like they were cut on a plasma cutter. Welds are so so. Looks like crap. I do not know what they used for a template but it wasn't a 3rd gen. For an economical set the Speed Engineering headers fit nice plus they are 1 7/8" primaries X 3" collectors.

Like Twin said, if you can weld then any set of LS headers can "work" and you can get away with spending $100-200. If you can't weld or don't have a competent welder friend than you could purchase a set as Ozz suggested but I would try to find a welder that you can take your car to and have him alter an existing inexpensive/used set. $1000 for a set of name brand headers is a rip off IMO.
