LTX and LSXPutting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.
installed my hawks side splitters then ended up trying out matte gun metal vinyl for the hood. kinda like it. took it out to the local friday night car meet thing. had a couple people say it looks better than the hoonigan camaro. lol first time doin vinyl pretty much.
thanx man. your car looks good, im not a stripe guy but you did them the right way. i am not a fan when people paint the stripes all the way to the bottom of the car. just looks weird to me. lol
ordered some founders camber plates to replace my cheap ebay ones. (friend is getting those). got done too late so didnt get to get an alignment (hopefully tomorrow). also buddy of mine cut up some vinyl stickers for me. wanted something simple and subtle.
Is there a Rear Diffuser or other Trim Component for the rear of the Car...
Part of a Set maybe?
I am not familiar with the Black-Painted lower Body-Panels that are on the car.
all the black parts are from Hawks third gen. its their splitter kit. they did just come out with a rear diffuser but dont have any pics of it on a car. off the car it looks pretty cheesy. i heard through the grapevine that they might be producing the hoonigan body kit. i think their rear bumper might work with the rest of my setup, if not ill figure something out.
i do have the center caps but too me it makes the wheel look cheaper and ugly. im planning on a new set of wheels maybe a set i had before but never got to drive on them. always loved the style though. think im gonna go back to a staggered setup cause currently i dont get uch turning radius before the tire touches and will literally stop the car.
cleaned it up a little cause im trying to get classic car insurance and they need pics of the car so went and took some pics. (yes i covered the turbo when i hosed it off.) i need to order the dynamat hood insulation.
some of the recent stuff ive done. installed clear headlight covers but made brackets to secure them better than just double sided tape like they want you to install them. swapped out my door panels for the premium GTA door panels. like the molded look and stronger build of these things over the flat piece of cardboard stock door panels. i threw them on real quick cause i got a motors4tots car show this weekend. still need to pull them off, clean out the door, add dynamat stuff, re-install my weather barrier thing and put the new clips once they come in. probably have them re-covered later on.think thats all ive done lately. just still been tryin to clean off overspray and other stuff. stopping by ESR wheels next week to see if theres anything thatll fit that i like. theres 4 choices i like but dunno yet.
i thought about the door panels a while back but then just couldnt find any info on the swap. luckily the guy i bought them from just did the swap on his camaro so he was able to tell me everything i need and also had everything. was a little pricey for it all but oh well. need to get my bros little steam cleaner thing and see if thatll get some more of the stains off the panels.
the emblems are from some girl i know. she custom makes them. she can pretty much make them say whatever you want within the size. here is her site. (as you can see my car is on it. lol) https://www.jbunnystudio.com/car-goods
got a motors4toys car show tomorrow morning. donating over 200 hotwheels i had laying around. should make some kids happy. wonder if ill be the only 3rd gen there.
well show was nice. had more people around my car than most of the supercars. made my buddy laugh all day. saw 2 other third gens there. picked up a new steering wheel and quick release hub but on the way i got my first ticket in 20 years. last time i got a ticket was in 2001. luckily i wasnt really on it but got me at 68 in a 40. cop was really cool and glad he didnt want to have my car refereed. told me nice car and asked what ive done to it. told him just restoring it and stuff. wanted a quick release cause even with the wheel all the way up its a bit of a struggle getting in sometimes. already sorta flattened out the cushion on my corbeaus. also a buddy bought me a gps tracker for the car. (hope it never gets stolen but if it ever did t least it has a tracker on it.)
As I said in Post #172, I very much like that Style of Firebird Door Panel over all the other Third-Gen Door Panel Designs.
The only thing that is missing...
Are the Late Firebird Door Panel Cup-Holder/ Map-Pocket Assemblies!
Years ago, I hunted these down... and have installed them into every Third-Gen that I have owned.
None of my Cars had the Hole-Locations pre-drilled...
So that is the only down-side to them.
I wonder now, if any of the 1991 - 1992 Firebirds had the provisions/ Hole-Locations, already drilled (without the Cup-Holder/ Map-Pocket Assemblies installed).
Well the Hoonigans had a toy drive so i stopped by. plus i wanted to see the Hoonicorn. not too many cars showed up i think due to some other bigger toy drives the same day. anyways got alot fo compliments, then when i went to move my car to take some pics grimmaro his usual **** talkin. lol sayin i couldnt be there cause i dont have a 632. lol good times. Danger Dan was trying to buy my buddies Typhoon.
not much of an update. tried to get an alignment a couple times. first shop (one we use at my work) said theyll hook me up on alignment. dude didnt even open the hood, just loosened up the front shocks and did it that way. they gave me the sheet and i was like wtf is that? my car has adjustable everything. they said theyd redo but i decided to leave. tried one firestone and they said they didnt have the correct machine for my car, tried another firestone and they wanted me to leave the car all day i said nope and left. then remembered i have a bent axle ( was like that when i bought the diff) and thought it would probably be better to fix the axle before alignment. so depending on weather the axles should be coming out soon so i can measure and get spline count.
i wired in a keyless entry and hatch remote which works pretty good for how cheap it was. i liked the size of the key fob.
fabbed up a new upper radiator mount since my modified stock one wasnt really holding the radiator, it was pretty much resting on the turbo.
think i decided on my next set of wheels. just gotta get some money together. after the axles.
I stand right there and watch the tech when they do my alignment. Like literally right there with them in the shop. I tell them the car is custom and I want to be involved because of special fastener torques, alignment specs, and stuff like that. That's how I get myself into the shop.
Last year I bought myself Longacre tools so I can do it at home. Once you get to a certain point you keep dialing in the suspension to see what works and the tools pay for themselves.
yeah now im just goin to take it to my buddy that tuned my car. he was having his alignment rack moved from his old shop to his new shop. so once the axles get replaced itll go to him which i know hell wanna do more tuning cause he wants to add more boost.
im surprised my brother hasnt bought the longcare kit since he drifts all the time. hell we got a tire machine at the house. lol
Well havent pulled the axle yet. between weather, work holidays etc. just havent had the time to dedicate to that at the moment. trying to figure out if i can get measurements and spline count without having to pull the whole thing apart. dont want it sitting forever waiting for axles. i have the reciept from when my buddy ordered it 20 years ago but doesnt have much info. i tried contacting strange and they couldnt find any info since it was soo old.
anyways been trying to get rid of weatherstripping leakage on the brand new weatherstripping. read a few posts about certain areas to add adhesive to or to fill in with silicone or whatever. pretty annoying. ordered a new hatch weatherstrip. noticed some water residue on the hatch pull down motor but not exactly sure where thats coming from. ill figure it out someday.
side note got a couple little things done recently.
new black leather with gray stitch shift boot and center console cover
camaro screw covers for the GTA door panels
03-04 cobra shift **** but need to raise it up more
got a dash pad on back order
looking into air ride
had a poster made of the car and love it.
theres no thread on the **** itself. i bought a shifter and that was bolted to it. the previous owner welded the cobra **** shaft to the side of a stock style 2 bolt shaft.
The MGW shifter has a simple straight rod that gets clamped to the shifter base. You can get rods of different thread and length. I have 3 different rods for my shifter (thread types, lengths) so I have a large market of shift ***** available to me.
That Cobra **** looks good. A nice leather **** is hard to beat. The SLP 4th gen **** is similar without the hand scorching aluminum on top.
i loved the **** that i had made the height perfect and easy to grab, nice to shift. aluminum never really got hot even in the 100+ degree days. i hate ball shifters. the slp one is nice but not for the stupid price people want for those these days. this one is kinda bulky to me. i mostly changed it just cause it fits in the interior a bit better than the previous one. wonder if i can have my old one leather wrapped lol that might look weird. for the moment ill rock this one for a little just need to raise it up a coupe inches. this thing is way too low. i found some nice ones online but not goin to spend anything over like $60 for a dang ****. there was one i liked but the stupid thing was like $300. hell to the nah like these.... https://raceseng.com/products/shift-.../camaro-ss-zl1
raised the shifter up a couple inches. now its alot easier to shift and more comfortable. finally mounted up some grille mesh. not the greatest but guess its better than an open hole. added some fatmat insulation stuff under the hood. also added something very 2000's under the car that some people would think is stupid or whatever but hey its my car and its not like itll be on all the time. probably just for pics or night time car meets. oh ad a buddy came over so we can install his strabuck designs turn signals and align his hood. thing had almost a 1" gap from the top of the bumper and was pulled forward a good inch or so. looks alot better now eh?
not much really on updates. just been doin little things here and there. tryin to do more car shows. had it up for sale for a week but hated dealing with people. lol.
anyways heres some stuff ive done or im still workin on.
@84 1LE leather wrapped my e-brake handle. looks freakin awesome and fits the rest of the stitched stuff in the interior.
finally got another dash pad (3rd one ive bought) went to install it andnoticed 2 tiny cracks. im just gonna live with it. sick of tryin to get a nice one. (threw my dash cover thing over it) might try and find a interior shop to maybe wrap it and add a grey stitching to the front of it.
bought some gto fuel rail covers that im gonna try and make fit. need to finish painting them and figure out mounting.
got bored and pulled my axle to see if it had c-clips. it did not. now i gotta measure them up and order new ones. although im thinkin of having the diff narrowed back to 3rd gen length. get more wheel options and lip. had a car show so didnt wanna leave the car on stands so put it back together.
side note might be swapping my buddies 91 rs that was in previous post here soon.
havent really messed with my car much. been doing a LS swap on my buddies 92. i still need to finish up those fuel rail covers. i did buy a different headlight setup. got rid of the cheesy lookin ebay headlights and found some h4 glass stock looking headlights that i ordered some LED bulbs for. ordered some 6k white and yellow leds. my high beams arent hooked up so im going to put the yellows in the high beams and wire up a switch for those. only problem with these is theyre not setup for LED bulbs so beam isnt a very sharp line. but i did drive around last night and didnt get anyone high beaming me like with the previous lights. also im sure the headlight covers dont help with the beams
got bored of the z06 wheels so decided to mix it up a little. found these simple flat 5 spoke wheels and liked the look. they were advertised as "hyper black" but the pic they had was this gun metal. so glad they were actually gun metal. i hate the multilug look but oh well. theyre a bit narrower than the old 10.5" wide z06 wheels but im ok with that, my power steering pump was getting mad having that wide up front. also my turning radius was crap. these are only 18x9 on all 4 but i like the look and my tires still fit fine. have to ditch the 2" spacer up front and order a 1" spacer for the fronts. rears bolted on fine since i have a 4th gen width rear end. i did a quick ceramic coat on them then took a couple pics before security kicked me out. lol
man been busy swappin my buddies car mostly. then when im hold on his car i get to work on mine a little. done a couple little things. installed a bump steer kit but still need to get an alignment. pulled my splitters off and repainted them, painted my calipers, finally installed my billet hatch hinges, installed some new rocker arms with trunions, got a custom shifter/ cup holder bezel getting made. oh and thinkin of making some sorta rock guards.
thanks. yeah i like gun metal. was actually kinda worried cause the ad had them listed as "hyper black" but all the pics were gun metal. took the gamble and got lucky. i liked the z06 wheels but just blended in too much. wanted something to break up the body from the wheels.
Looks good, like the rims. 5 spoke on 3rd gens always look good. What did they cost you? I also run 18x9.5 and I would never go back to 10.5” especially on the rear. I would rather them fit just right.
they were a little over $900 shipped. yeah i like simple 5 spoke wheels or mesh wheels on these cars. also i feel these cars need a wheel with a lip on it. thats also why i got these.
had a guy come do an alignment at my house, got new tires. installed new shifter bezel (now i need to mount my double din differently). changed my door stickers, repainted the blue in my engine bay, re-installed my strut bar and decided to not do the gto fuel rail covers. had some artwork done and finally finished my buddies swap.
