LTX and LSXPutting LT1s, LS1s, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.
Its been a very long time since I've been on here, been in the 3rd gen scene since the late 90's and previously built an 89 IROC-Z with a stout LS1 and T56. After selling it in 2016 then seeing the current RIDICULOUS prices... lol. I decided to find my dream car. Well, sort of anyway. Ended up finding a 91 RS Convertible up in Washington state two years ago. Factory 305 with a 5 speed. Was a basic car, no power windows, no power locks, no air conditioning.... but the price was reasonable, so we took the trip from Louisiana up there to buy it. Turns out the car was a little rougher than the dealer led on, as usual. But no rust and no major issues. Ended up having a mid 90's 350 motor in it with the stock TBI, which was a win.
So I gutted the car and installed all kinds of new parts.... C6 front brakes, UMI control arms, rear end from a 2002 WS6 Trans Am with 3.73 gears. I put in a Z-28 front sway bar and wonder bar from UMI. Weld in UMI SFC's, Caster / Camber plates, etc...
Motor was a 5.3L LM7 that I punched out to a 3.905" bore with Icon forged pistons, full floating rods and stock crank. 243 heads, from a C5 ZO6, BTR stage 3 LS1 cam, Long tube headers, Magnaflow catback, FAST 92mm intake and throttle body and all the other supporting mods. Just now getting to the wiring, with a painless harness and 0411 PCM. Once its up and running the car will be going to the body shop for a new paint job then a new convertible top...
This is my previous build... was a beautiful car inside and out. Selling it was a HUGE mistake... as I'm sure some of you have done the same. So I'm building the drop top so the wife and I can go cruising on sunny days, hit a few cars shows and just enjoy the car.
