LT1 swap question for 87 GTA with Digital Dash

Hey All,

Well i just got my new to me 96 Camaro LT1 Drivetrain from Hawks Motorsports, it came with pretty much everything, I threw some pictures up for reference.

So after reading the numerous threads on this topic, i didn't find exactly what i am looking for, and maybe the LT1 wiring for dummies is really all i need to follow and i am just over thinking this last 20 percent. So here are my questions

1. So along wiht the factory engine harness i also got the dash harness as well. does it makes more sense to work with the dash harness of the 4th gen, as it has the fuse box and all that, and just replicate my 3rd gen harness? i know i wont have things like traction control etc. or should i just re-pin my 3rd gen dash harness to work?
2. my plan is i don't want a stand alone harness, i want everything to work as it is now, down to the power antenna, fans, radio lights even the cruise control.
3. For the cruise control do i need an actual pedal assembly from a 4th gen or can i just get the necessary connectors and i seem to see around the pedals and adapt them to my current pedals.
4. I am not worried about tuning switching to OBDII as i have access to software
5. it seems with the digital dash there are differnt't ohms compared to an analog guage, going back to point 1 should i just use the 4th gen harness for that, bascailly just match the connectors for the 3rd gen and plug it all up and it should work? or will I still need to add resisters etc?

Any help that anyone can offer would be great, i am hoping to get started on all the electrical here in the next week and i am planning to map out my progress as i go as i have not see to many or any digital dash cars done, or if someone wants to reach out to me i can give you my email as well.

i again apprecaite all the help i have gotten over the years, and look forward to you guys helping me hit the finish line with this one. Thanks!

Use the lt1 as a long block stick any sbc intake on top with the dizzy use stock wiring and computer, most of the lt1's power came from the heads and cam

I have recently modified the vette's accessory bracket so I have alternator and P/S on the driver side at first glance its hard to tell Im even running a gen 2 sbc

keep the car's chassis wiring intact and modify the engine harness side to do what you need. i believe the accelerator pedal is pretty similar between 3rd and 4th gen and would think you should be able to use your existing pedal.
you can stay with the opti if you want, but i would probably try to go 24x and run it with an LS pcm or holley terminator x max. i would not mess up any of the digital dash stuff. just swap your sensors and stuff over onto the LT1. unless you are planning to make some serious power, i would stick with the LT1 intake.

Hey Diggler, thanks i assumed it was probably going to be just re-pinning the current one that i have and just matching everything up. i wasn't sure if it was easier to use the 4th gen harness but i mean for the most part it all seems straight forward. granted i say that now loll

I agree with Diggler.
I would leave the inside harness alone and use the power inputs from the 87 fuse box for the 96 PCM
I would use the 87 a/c wiring,I modified the LT1 accessory bracket and put the a/c compressor on top and the alt on the bottom in my 88 camaro. If you went this route you would also need a compressor and hose assembly from an 88-92 model f-body.
The factory cruise should be able to be used,I think you just need to supply vss signal from the 96 PCM to the cruise module.
I believe the vss from the 96 PCM will run your speedometer without any modifications other than splicing your 96 vss wire to your 87 vss wire.
I would use the 87's starter and alternator wiring.
Use your 87 gauge senders for the dash gauges, the oil and temp senders.
Splice the 96 PCM output for the fuel pump relay to the 87's relay.
I think you should be able to reuse your throttle cable and possibly the cruise cable too.
It looks like the 96 p/s line is there and you should be able to use it.

There are other things I missed but that is all I can think of at the moment. There is a link below that I used.
