Just got this 1983 Camaro for $500 bucks.. It sat for about 4 months so it was layered in dust and tree sap.. Motor runs pretty good.. There was barely any oil in the engine so i loaded it up with fresh oil.. Its got a few problems.. But what do you expect for a 500$ car? lol. Needs a new clutch.. Going to replace Valve cover gaskets tomorrow hopefully.. Its running alittle rich right now.. Which is causing it to poor out unburnt fuel out of the exhuast at start up.. I only have 1 picture of it right now and its only about 30 mins into its cleaning process.. Ill get some more pictures tomorrow and show you what 10+ hours of cleaning does to a car. lol.

Lol. Imma make this my little update thread.. The car is a 5 speed and there aren't any big issues that i know of.. just the clutch is on its way out.. and needs a good tune up since its running rich.. Not too bad for a the price i paid. :P

Im cleaning the interior out now.. So ill get some newer pictures later on!

Im replacing the valve cover gaskets right now.. That'll solve the smoke in the engine problem hopefully.. Then im going to focus on the carb and stopping the smoke out of exhuast issue.

After i clean it up alittle bit.. Ill go snap some pictures of the clean interior

My phone doesnt take very good pictures.. But yeah.. The car is half way covered in turtle wax right now and its very dirty from all the oil prints.. But thats what i got for 500$ bucks. I'm going to paint the spoiler black to match the hood.. and i got to do some touching up on the paint.. But i want to take care of the engine problems first.

Re: My $500 1983 Z28 Camaro
Why not instead of painting the spoiler black to match the hood you paint the hood red to match the car

Or better yet put a fiberglass 82-84 hood on it and save the IROC hood for the IROCs.

Not bad for $500!

because the spoiler was shot.. I had to reconstruct it alittle and paint it.. Thought black would make it look alittle better and it sure did.. Even though i messed up on the paint alittle.. itll do for now.

Ill get to the hood once i get all the engine stuff sorted out

Brennan: The exhuast itself is about 2 years old.. So id say its just the chrome tips.

Re: My $500 1983 Z28 Camaro
I doubt painting the spoiler black would make it look better but that is just the opion of one guy who likes his Camaro to match like the General intended.

Re: My $500 1983 Z28 Camaro
Lol. Instead of making a new thread.. I might as well update this one.

Well.. Turns out this car was an even better deal then expected. I've been working my *** off on this car.. Especially the last month or so.

Turns out.. The clutch problem i was talking about wasn't the clutch itself.. Infact the clutch is brand new.. Only about 6k miles on it. It was the rod needing adjustment. Thats all it needed now it shifts perfectly fine now. I also found a receipt which states it had a 1100$ tranny rebuilt in 2004.. So the tranny has about 30k mines on it. It has a new starter and a bunch of other stuff i forgot.

When i made this thread.. The car was pretty bad. I did a mini restore job on it and got the interior looking in excellent shape.. all it took was a 5$ can of that turtle wax carpet cleaner.

I just finished putting on valve seals.. I thought the piston rings were shot because it smoked like a chiminy while idling.. Well.. The good news continued for me.. I found out there was NO seals on intake nor exhuast. I'm just wrapping up some final stuff right now.. Putting everything back together.. Then im going to clean up the whole engine bay and make it look nice. People wont even think its a 220k mile car.

Heres a recent pic i just snapped.. Doesnt show much but once i get it all done.. I'm going to give it a good wash then ill go post some better pictures up with a real camera not a cell phone

Re: My $500 1983 Z28 Camaro
I do that because sometimes someone will come through with a good car to trade.. Thats why i'm always looking for something different.. One ad might say i will trade for a mustang then ill post another 2 weeks saying im looking for a trans am or firebird or another camaro. I dont really want to sell it.. Just testing the waters.

Good deal. Having a Camaro alone for $500 is already a great find! The dash still looks decent to me!

Not to mention that for what little he has in it, plus the price he paid anything over say 1500 for the car is pure profit. (thats with the intial price of the car plus sweat equity/pride put into it) Hell if someone offered me the right price on my camaro it'd be gone just as fast as the mustang I sold before buying it (camaro)
