Death of my '90 IROC Z
Death of my '90 IROC Z
Hopefully some of you guys will appreciate the pain of losing a sweet 3rd gen. All my non f-body enthusiast friends/family only seem care about my health and insurance settlement
(asses eh!)
Anyways I spent a solid year finding my 90Z (3rd IROC, 4th 4rd gen) with everything just the way I like it:
305 tpi 5spd with the g92 performance option(hotter cam, dual cats, various suspension bits), fully loaded, absolutely mint interior. Just finished loading custom amp and 6.5" kicker subs into the bose rear speaker deck
Bought with about 150,000Kms ~ 93,500 miles in late March.
I unloaded my previous car before going to university, and this was my 'graduation' present to myself. I intended on keeping it pretty much forever.
Anyways, the other day as I was driving the vehicle to drop it off to get the only existing exterior blemishes fixed, curb rash on the lower front valence, a douche in a van turned left infront of me. Estimator wrote if off a few days later. These cars are getting few and far between up here, especially the ones I like (305/5spd Irocs) that haven't been rat-bagged to *****, so the loss of this beauty almost brings a tear to my eye...

Man I feel your pain, My brother lost a 92 Rs convertible with 25k miles 2 years ago, and I still feel his pain :-/.
Re: Death of my '90 IROC Z
I was trying to, but the rules here in BC are a little iffy. To get my settlement I pretty much had to 'sell' the salvage title to ICBC. I had no first-right to buy the wreck or anything like that. It would have gone to auction a few days after it was written off and I believe that there are rules for who is allowed to go.
Anyways, you can't tell from the pictur, but the drivers side front suspension was pretty much gone, along with both fenders, the bumper and the hood. Also some mechanical damage i.e. the tranny somehow f'd up? Would have been to involved for me to deal with...

I feel for you. That looked like a nice ride. Do you plan on getting another 3rd gen?
Re: Death of my '90 IROC Z
Man, I would have shot the guy in the van.
I'm telling you guys...Beware of van drivers...they seem to be the absolute worst drivers around.
And I'm pretty sure they hate 3rd gens.

Man, that sucks. Very clean car, and rare, too.
I'll bet someone will fix it up and keep it on the road.

I feel your pain brother... the rules in BC suck for keeping your 'totaled' vehicle.
I know of a few cars around for sale, including a red '90 IROC. PM me if you need some help finding a car.

Re: Death of my '90 IROC Z
I feel your pain. I lost my first 3rd gen on a country road when I had to swerve to miss something in the road, lost control and slammed into a building after jumping a parking block. I will always miss that car. I've owned 2 other 3rd gens, Firebirds, and they were never going to compare to my Camaro.

Re: Death of my '90 IROC Z
Almost had the same issue with my B4C. I wrecked it and the insurance company wanted to total it. My body shop was nice enough to write a letter to my insurance carrier telling them it was a rare car in good shape otherwise and they went ahead and fixed it. Had State farm for insurance and the Collison Center was on State Farms approved list. Don't expect to get the same service from a cheap insurance company or body shop. You get what you pay for..

I would have to agree with ya, I had my car for a few months and I was driving, some socker mom almost t boned me, but I saved it by tromping the gas and breaking the rear end loose and swung it around to miss, all the while sporting a middle finger to her.
