Hey Folks,
Been posting here for a couple months now, so I figure it's just about time for me to post a bit about myself and my rides.
My name is Andrew Reid, I'm currently 20, and reside in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I bought my Camaro this past summer. It's the third GM in my driveway, but my first Third Gen. The story goes as follows.
I was cruising around town, as I normally do, and happened to notice a stunning Camaro I'd never seen around before. I'd later find out it was a '91 RS. As the weeks passed, I saw it occasionally, until one day; I saw it parked with a for-sale sign on it. Every time I came into town, I drove past where it was parking, and once or twice a week, it would be sitting outside with the sign in the window. Every once in a while, I threatened to stop and have a look at it. Finally, on my way into town with Alyssa one day, I asked if she wanted to stop and look at it. She said yes. So we did.
Barry, the man who owned it, saw us and came down to talk to me about the car. I commented on a few things, he asked if I wanted to hear it run. I did, so he got the keys. He started it, it roared to life, and Alyssa and I, in unison, went "ohmigawd!"
I got his number, and mulled over it for a week. I called Barry to ask him a few things, and to ask about a test drive. He said I should come right over. I had Alyssa, my buddy Andrew, and his girlfriend Mikelle with me...we showed up, Barry took me out to show me the ropes and where to watch for nose drag. Then he took me back, handed me the keys, and said "Be careful!”
I brought the car back about half an hour later. Later that day, I called my bank, and the next day, I was at Barry’s house with a money order. I took the car home, then called Alyssa and asked her if she remembered the car. She said that she, obviously, remembered the car. I asked if she liked it. She said she, obviously, liked it. So I asked her if she wanted to go for a drive later that night. She said that she'd love to...then hesitated and went "Wait...what...? You didn't...did you..?” To which I replied "I did...”
The car is a 1991 Camaro RS Convertible. It's on 16" GTA Crosslace rims with Kumo rubber. Disc front, Drum rear. 5.0L 305CID TBI V8, Automatic. Top is nearly brand new. Interior is mint. Paint is almost 9 years old, and is white, with red racing stripes. Barry was 3rd owner, and bought the car 9 years ago now, and had it painted the week he bought it. In the 8 years he owned it, he put ~30,000km on it. It's only got ~150,000km (90,000miles) on it now. Not bad by my books. It’s lowered 2" from stock. Barry added a bit of a system in the car...a Kenwood 10", and Wal-Mart-brand Cap and Amp in the trunk. The amp powered the rear speakers (I didn’t know this), and shortly before the car went into winter storage, I found out the hard way. I wasn't too worried about trashing the stock speakers, as I planned from the beginning to put a better stereo in it.
My planned modifications for the car are fairly simple. I love twisty back roads. And I don't like the horror stories about body twist and cracked dashes. So I plan to put a STB, SFC's and a Wonderbar on the car come spring. I plan to do a big brake upgrade, with some help from Ed. The plan now is a 1LE Drum-to-disk conversion on the back, with Wilwood 4-pots on the front. My tentative plan is for a pair of 10" subs in the trunk, powered by an amp, and a full speaker set (nothing in new places, just a stock replacement), also possibly powered by an amp. I'll be putting in a flip-out-TV deck (Likely the newest Kenwood unit) with GPS and Nav. Not that I need it...it's just fun to have...you know how it is. A full Eurolight sealed beam conversion is in the works, too, as is HIDs, also from Eurolight. And to protect this rather large investment, a full Viper Alarm system. At least, that’s the plan right now...pending finances, mind changes, advice from TGO, etc.
I don't really have anything in mind for the motor...I'm tempted to do a total fluid change (Royal Purple in everything...I've been looking for an excuse to try it). Other than that, and maybe a new air filter, I think that’s the extent of my engine mods. I don't plan to try to pull 300 horses out of a 305TBI like some folks on the site...Not that there's anything wrong with it, I don't feel it’s worth it for my summer joyride. Now, if I land myself another Camaro...Or a Trans-Am...Well...ya never know...
And of course...the pictures...

Cheers, and thanks for the wonderful site. It's been of much help, and I predict, it'll be of much more help in the future!

Howdy! Very nice and clean looking Camaro. I love the stripes. Great story and beautiful car. Treat it well man. IMHO I would suggest going back to the Camaro rims, it's totally up to you but I think crosslaces look out of place on Camaros. Still, beautiful car. Should bring you many years of enjoyment!

...does she think your tractor's sexy? haha
Thanks for the compliments and suggestions so far, guys!
A couple comments...
I won't be doing black headlight buckets. I love the look on most cars, and certainly on some white cars, but I think it depends a lot on the car itself. I photoshopped it on my car, and it looks like the car has two black eyes. If the stripes were black, I'd probably do it, just to make the front blend and match a bit more. But thats not happening, either. Haha. As for Camaro rims, if I do anything, I'll probably go aftermarket...but...I don't think I'll do that, either. Something about the white crosslace on the car looks 'different'...it's not the typical chrome that everyone does. I admit, I didn't like the rims when I bought the car. And cleaning them is a pain in my back (literally!), but they're growing on me.
As for her thinking my tractor is Sexy (By her, I assume you mean Alyssa)...Actually, she used to rip on me all the time about the tractor. There are actually two in that picture. The one closest to the left is mine, and is a 1954. The one at the other end, and another one not in the pictures, belong to a friend..the guy I bought my tractor from. It's been very useful for cleaning my driveway this winter!
I keep meaning to get back in touch with Barry, the guy whom I bought the car from. He has/had another Camaro for sale at the time, for half the price of my RS...it was in pieces though. He said it was a full on race car, built by Chevy. He showed me the block, and a picture of it that was hanging on the wall from the day him and his buddy picked it up. I admit, it meant nothing to me at the time,...but having hung around this site for a while, I'm now starting to wonder if perhaps it wasn't a players car. If it was...I might need to look into it..
Thanks again guys!

I was just quoting the song about the Tractor haha. But it's nice to see you're keeping your car the way you want it. You definately should go check out that car to see if it's a Players car... that would be a steal depending how dismanteled it is. Again beautiful car
Hah, trust me..I know that song rather well. My friends used to play it to mock me about the tractor. They seem to have stopped now that the tractor has plowed their driveways...strange, eh?
"steal" may be the wrong word. I have no idea what players cars sell for these days, and certainly not around here. I didn't mention the cost of my car, though, as I wasn't sure if that would have come across as bragging, etc. If anyone is interested, I'll gladly post up the sticker price, as well as his "Make me an offer" price on what I think might be a Players Car.

another fellow Canadian, nice looking vert! the cross lace rims sure make it look unique, not sure if I personally like it but a side profile shot would give the rims a better perspective.
if it were my car, I'd probably change out the louvered grill.. otherwise it looks great.

nice ride and welcome to tgo! i see everyone is already starting to bash you and tell you "what to do with your car" dont worry about em though your car looks perfectly fine. nice paint!! looks real good without the black bucket headlights
Thanks for the welcome, guys.
I just realized I don't have a decent side-profile shot to post...this is the best I can do right now, since the car is in storage (The building in this picture, strangely enough) 45 minutes away.

I appreciate all the comments, positive and negative..and don't really consider the "Paint the headlight buckets black" comments as bashing. I appreciate the input on what you guys think would look good...it might not be something I've considered, and if you guys think it would look good, I'd attempt to photoshop it. I did the buckets, and didn't like them. I'd do the same if someone suggested a high-rise wing, light/roll bar, cage, etc.
Edit: Thanks for the comment on the paint, btw. It's 9 years old, and has a few swirls, but it still polishes up some nice..as you can see by the reflection in one of the first pictures I posted. If the time comes I decide it needs paint, it'll probably stay white...but I imagine I might do a flake or a pearl in the white, just to make it pop a bit more. The stripes would come off and be painted on instead..maybe with a red flake in them, or something. That's at least a year away, at the soonest. I want to focus on suspension, brakes and audio (really my only planned mods) this coming season.
Thanks again, guys!

Gotta Love how people bash things until those things help them out. I got that with the TA. Guys at work bashed it and we went for lunch one day and three different girls came up to my in Tim Hortons because they saw me get out of the car and were like, "Wow that's a really hot car" I just smiled, said thanks, then turned to the boys and said so how much does my car suck now? hahaOriginally Posted by 91RSinNS

And I for one am interested in those 2 items
Come Plow my Driveway?! haha
According to my calculations, it would take me roughly eleven DAYS to drive, non-stop, from my general location to your general location to plow your driveway. Thats assuming I take main highways the whole way. I don't think the LEO's would take too kindly to that...
Anywho...I know the feeling of getting compliments on the car, too. Every once in a while, I get a random message on Facebook saying "Hey dude, Nice car!"...I've had people yell things at me while driving, and I get the "Smoke it!" comment pretty frequently.
As for purchase price of my car, it was listed on the sticker at $15,000. I paid $14,500 for it. Thats as low as Barry would go. He had this and his other Camaro to sell, and had a price goal in mind, because he wanted to buy another car. Originally he was looking for a Cobra kit car. He ended up with an older 'vette. He said that he was looking for offers on the Players car...was looking for at least $5000, but was hoping for something more along the lines of $7-8000.

Hmm berry interesting! How is the underside of your new baby? Pretty clean? Rust?
The only rust I've found on the car so far is the rear bumper area...looks like the bumper support. It's got some healthy surface rust, and the paint has all flaked off, but that didn't worry me too much. I don't figure its structural, you can't see it unless your literally under my car, so I wasn't going to worry about it. I figure when the SFC's go on in the spring, I'll clean it down and protect it. The rest of the underside is about as rust-free as you could expect it to be. It's -never- been driven in the winter. Ever. Period.

Good to hear man. Sounds like a real cherry you picked up!
