Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Wow it looks like the prevoius owner never gave it a vacumm to your car (dont want to sound bad)
and it is a good thing that the floor pan are not in a bad shape. Make sure to spray something so no rust can form in there. it will save you some trouble in the future.
Keep me posted
Also are you gonna put the fins that go on the side to complete the 3 piece spoiler

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Well i got the holes on the back wetsanded, and some of the area around the little dings on the spoiler. I got the passenger side part on yesterday. i didnt fit like i wanted, but its on, and loos alright. Is not a perfect car anyway. im gonna try and finish the bondo work on the tail end and prime all the goodies back there, then move on to another project.

I've been back and forth with the transmissions, and now i think were back to the 350. I've located one for 100 bucks, with a stock converter.
No progress on the motor build since i've been called into work every day i've off for the last 2 weeks so i never get a second hardly.

Hopefully something'll happen soon.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

No new updates guys. Nothing really done. I've been messing with my other cars and whatnot. I'm starting to mosey on back to the camaro now and have basically dropped back to square one on the motor. Its not getting any progress so now im looking for a 350...

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Well tonight, my dad and i talked, and we decided, well, why not. Lets strip it. put it on blocks, rip that crap out, and put in a 350, transmission and slap an alternator on it and be done with it. No A/C nothing for extra weight and its a streetable drag car. strip the unnessasary crap, and let it ride

Now i'm between a rock and a hard place..

Said it needs bottom end bearings. 350 motor complete and ready to go in the car, with new torque converter, and hoods with it. I can get the whole car for the same price as the motor.... Its cheep, but i wont say how cheep but just know its 3 digits..
If i get it, then i'll probally just part the v6 camaro to make some money back out of it.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

well not getting the other camaro. Got mine up on blocks, and the fan shroud out. Tomorrow i'm going to try and get some of the stuff out of the engine bay. and prep to pull the motor. Then the wheels come off and start working on those one by one to get them prepped and painted.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

motors out

Got a motor. a 74 350 out a Cheyenne. Basically a core 4 bolt main. He said he thought it was a canadian version with the steel crank/rods.
Paid 100 for the whole motor minus water pump, timing cover, and q-jet(which i'm going back to get if he can find it)

decent core i guess.. something i can work with..

Good luck on your project and check me posted.
Like they say once you start working on something who knows what will be left in the end to do

The only thing we didnt take pictures of were how bad the cylinders were before we cleaned them up.. but the only thing i can tell you, is look the heads, and thats what the walls looked like. The 4 chambers that dont have any rust in them, were full of water.

Are you planning on sending some thing to be hot tub, usually that helps out to make it look cleaner.
I was surprise to see how the heads look and the crank.
Hope everything goes in your favor on your build.
I would like to see how everything turns out in the end

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

nothing new on the motor. grandmas in the hospital, so the major stuff is set back, so in my little bit of time around the house, i painted a wheel today, and it looks awesome.
still got some touching up, and sanding the alum. thinking about clearing the wheel, but i doubt it.

Also, got one motor mount painted the other day, paint another one tomorrow. its not going to be perfect, but it looks good.

Also kinda mock painted the k-member to see what colors i like it, my dad dosent

engine bay is going black, k-member silver, mounts black, clamshells silver, block black, orange oil pan, water pump and valve covers

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Got another wheel done today. I've still gotta polish up the lip, but i can do that later. Still determining if i should clear these or not. i'm thinking not.

Also got another motor mount, and started on the K-member drop

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Wow 4 in of rain. I remember those days when it rain here in Cali. I couldnt drive my camaro during those days since where I live it would really get flooded and I would be force to drive my dads truck to get around. Since my camaro would have problem driving through the big floods
But hey at least everything is going ur way. I am gonna have to take some notes on what u are doing to do to my camaro when I do my engine swap.

i fully understand the nuisance dad thing, but if he's got any hotrod experience at all, you may want to listen closely to his thoughts. i'm 25 now and built my first hotrod at 17, and wished that i had listened to him closer. i'd probably still have that car if i'd taken the time to listen to what he had to say about the car.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

i basically have the exact same car as you. 2.8L v6, 1984 sport coupe... 431000 kms, so nearly 300,000 mi. im doing bodywork on it right now, i decided to go with the iroc bumper covers and the rocker covers... still completely stock engine/tranny though... i have 17" Replika R35 wheels on it with 225s. i plan on lowering it with the dropzone 1.75" drop kit within the next week or so, then im getting hte windows tinted. car is midnight sand grey. once im done most of that stuff i plan on looking into an enigne/tranny swap, its an auto and i wanna throw a 5 speed into it. ill take some pictures next week when the body is done and post them up on here. i like ur project, it reminds me of mine. aha

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Got the cam bearings and freeze plugs today, and the block was in the boring bar when he left the shop. ready to start poppin holes in the morning. i'm hoping when i get up, i can get some pictures of it in the shop for you guys.

I've got Speed Pro Pistons, Sealed power cam bearings and freeze plugs, so might as well stick with the Sealed Power mains/rods and rings huh?

My dads in his off week of pay, so im getting slapped with the bill this week, hopefully he'll hold to his word and give me his half back. If not, he'll be ordering a few more things
We're still un decided on Carb and a cam. it'll probally be a summit el cheepo cam for now. Its a budget motor, so why not.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Well I'm pretty sure I've got my car traded on a 80 rs, with a 600 hp built motor in it. Its got a cracked ring, so it'll have to be tore down too, but its the car I really wanted anyway, so I'll love it. The guy I'm trading with, wants a 3rd gen, and wants a car he can do a big build on, so we've got opposite projects. But, all in all we'll both be happy.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

if that's a 600hp engine, then mine makes 1000...to the tires!

you traded one broken project for another...and the second gen is easily 400lbs heavier. sorry buddy, but if you traded that thinking it made 600hp, you got douped bad..

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

well, either way i at least have a decent car, heads, intake, headers, exhaust, block, pistons and a crank and a carb with this one, vs

a half a car, a block, rods, crank and pistons.

Plus, i wanted the second gen to begin with, and couldnt find one, so i got a third gen. but nothings set in stone yet, and either way, that cars not going far, and i know where a couple more are if i wanna get another.

And i know its not making 600, maybe even 450, but its the car i want..

I think you did the right thing trade wise. I would trade mine off for a nice 2nd gen if I could.

Re: My New Project. 84 Camaro

Well i dont have anything finalized yet, but thanks guys. Im really, really hating that i've got to get rid of my motor with the car.. The motor thats in it, is more than i would have been able to build with this one, but im gonna miss this one. I've taken it from a pile of rust and grease, and now its a nice and pretty block, and new pistons, bored to .030. But, i guess you gotta give something up. I've got alot of money tied up into it, and now ima have to track right back down the same road..
