I just finished my GTI.... more or less. So I snapped a few pics of my cars together.

Yeah, talk about Yin and Yang. I've never driven 2 cars back to back that were so different from each other. It actually makes it pretty difficult to go from one to the other. The clutch engagement points, steering feel, power band, shifter, etc. are all so different feeling.

Beautiful car! Very tastefully done, inside and out. I love everything about it.
I had those 10-spoke SS wheels on my 4th gen, and I was amazed at how much better they looked after I had them powdercoated gloss black. I think they look even better on your 3rd gen.

The first Autocross event was this weekend. I compete with Oregon Region SCCA in the STU class.

Re: My '91 Z28
Yes. I have 2" adapters front and rear. Wheel and tire choice will vary vastly depending on which class you plan to run in. In STU the wheel width is unlimited for me but my max tread width is 285mm. Ideally I would run a wider wheel than these 9" SS wheels so I get less sidewall rollover.

Re: My '91 Z28
Not really, unfortunately. I decided to run out the rest of the autocross season on my current wheel/tire set up as I am currently in second place and know the car and how it feels very well right now. I would hate to throw on the new set of wheels and be unfamiliar with it at my last two events coming up in mid October. I've also been dailying it because I sold my GTI and got a '90 240sx with an RB20DET swap, so I'm having to fix up a bunch of small issues with that before that becomes my daily driver. Though after my last autocross even I'm going to send it over to a friends shop to do a frame pull and get it back to spec and get a new bumper, fender, and lip. I will be lowering it back down too possibly on some drop spindles.
Oh, I guess there is one big update. However, it'll be awhile before it happens as I'm having to slowly collect parts, but sometime next year the displacement will bump up from 5.0 to 5.3 and it wont be N/A either.

Are you going 18x10.5 all the way around? I have them on the rear of my car and they fit with just a little massaging of the fender well. What do you plan to do about the fronts?? The front hubs are too large to allow the wheels to slide completely on. One person has done it by using a spacer, but they stick out past the fender lip.

Looks like I haven't posted any pictures or updates lately. I've been autocrossing competitively this year with the Oregon Region SCCA. Last weekend marked the last two events of the season and I ended up 2nd overall in points for the season in my class, STU. Here's a few shots during some races in Packwood, WA. props to Al for most of these awesome photos.

Re: My '91 Z28
And now that the racing season is over, I am about to embark of some more drastic work. First off I decided to get the car back to a more desired ride height. I'm not going to be racing during the winter so it doesn't need to be a 4x4 anymore. Pretty sure I'm not going to be going any lower anymore 8).

The car is going to a friends shop soon to get the frame straightened then I will be fitting up these wheels.

18x10.5 +20 XXR 526's with Chromium Black centers and chrome lips front and rear. I'll have to play the spacer game to get the fitment just right. Tire choice is still up in the air. I'm leaning towards either the Dunlop Direzza Z2's or BFG Rivals. Size will most likely be 275/35/18. Though I say tire choice is up in the air because I will no longer be running in STU next year but instead I should be in Street Mod (SM). "Why the change?" you ask? well...

Re: My '91 Z28
So I pulled the Camaro out last weekend and took it for a quick test drive at its new ride height. I still have a small list of things I need to do. There's still a lot of tire rub in the rear even after I rolled the lips. The rear fender lips are so damn thick that I'm not sure if I can roll them completely flat, the quarter panel started buckling when I rolled the so I didn't try to go further. I'll either see if I can get someone who's more experienced with doing fender pulls and mini flares and see if the rear can be worked a little more or ill have to cut the lips out.
I need to get stiffer springs first and foremost. I currently have 800/200 and they allow too much compression. I was thinking of going with 1000/225 or even 1200/250.
I also need to clearance the pinch weld that is located above the front tires in the front fender wells. They will cut into the tires otherwise. I will be cutting out the rear bump stop mounts and C-notching the rear inner fender well for axle tube clearance. I fabbed some rear lower shock mount relocation brackets as well and need to get around to drilling the bolt holes and mounting them. In order to prevent my front struts from bottoming out I machined some spacers out of 304 stainless to raise the strut mounts another inch. This will be a temporary solution until I either fab my own drop spindles or buy the Racecraft ones and get new struts that are shorter. I could just make my own 2" raised strut mounts but I'd prefer not to because that will just limit my range of alignement adjustment. I have been waiting for AST to release their new line of struts for the 82-92 Camaro but I haven't been able to get any response from them or Vorshlag. Now on to the pictures.

Possibly. The turbo build will take awhile before I acquire all the parts that I need before I start so I may go ahead with putting the vortec heads and ramjet on to hold me over. But if not I'll let you know.

Re: My '91 Z28
I love how every time I mention to someone I want to put the highrise spoiler on my car they get all uppity and mad about it, but every time they see a car like this they love it.
I've had this idea to make an autocross spoiler with one... basically use a spoiler similar to the normal plexiglass ones that guys like BIG_MODS use, and just move it a little farther forward on the deck lid and hide it inside the high rise spoiler. You'd have to heavily modify the high rise spoiler to make this work, but I think it would be awesome.
An extremely crude representation of it, and you'd have to remove a lot more of the top panel... but I think it could be really awesome, but I lack the parts and tools to pull it off.

Re: My '91 Z28
Just picked up a turbo. Nearly half off retail and new in the box. It's a Borg Warner S400SX3 (S471) 71mm 1.10 A/R T4 housing. P/N 177248. I decided against the larger S475 because ultimately I would never use the full potential of that turbo. This one should spool a little better and have better response.

Nice!
You get those XXR wheels mounted up yet? I almost pulled the trigger and bought a set yesterday, but I decided to hold and finish a few other things with the car first.

subscribed !! beautiful car!! ive been coming back to this post for quite a while to see what youve done !!
hows your turning radius being that low??
im trying to decide what kinda suspension i want to run on my vert when i finish my ls swap. im looking into the ground control stuff but not sure if it would be good for a dd? i may just wind up cutting 1/2 when im done lol

The springs are SSS (Suspension Spring Specialists) as supplied with the Ground Control weight jack kit. they are not cut at all. the weight jacks are adjustable so I can fine tune the ride height and/or corner weight the car.

Not directly. There would be some cutting and welding involved with a single Y-pipe car and the hangers are different.
