6.0" connecting rod so the dwell time at tdc is a little higher. Its definitely in cam timing events. The only solution may be a cam change.

Thanks for the feedback. This latest build has been a pain in the ***. I hope to sort it out over the winter and be good to go next season.
Looking forward to your new engine build.

Started fixing up the set of Brodix heads going on this engine, one casting was good, the other one however... not so much. It became the victim of a dropped intake valve.
Seats cut out and major damage ground out. Ready for welding.

Wow. Is it worth it? I suppose working in an engine shop has it's advantages though.

Well a replacement casting from brodix is about 700$, all im going to have into this one is the cost of seats and guides.

I was thinking more along the lines of what it would cost for a guy like me to have that head saved. There's a lot of time and skill that's going to go into that head with welding, milling and grinding.
Then again, like I said, working in an engine shop has it's advantages.

More and more shiny parts arriving daily.
Ferrea Comp plus stainless intake valves, I am also running Ferrea Super Alloy exhaust valves
Crower solid roller HPPO lifters
ATI super damper
Tial knockoff BOV
ARP main studs installed
Frost plugs installed, ready to pur some hard blok
Mixing up the first batch of hardblok
First side poured and torque plate torqued up. I poured both side this weekend but didnt feel the need to document both sides...
[/URL]
I also got some specs on the new cam, I had Lil Johns Motorsport Solutions spec the solid roller out for it, He does alot of turbo combo's and his camshafts seem to work quite well. It's a Bullet grind 0.683"/0.683", 261/265 @0.050", 115+4 LSA. Should be pretty nasty.

Well... Things took a turn for the awesome yesterday. picked up a set of CFE/BMF 18 degree heads. this thing should make some pretty killer power now...
Might need a lower profile elbow to clear the hood....
Xceldyne belt drive.
new camshaft from Lil John Motorsports Solutions
Should sound pretty badass through dual 4" downpipes dumped under the fenders
And some shiny bit's to match the new paint.

I may, Just for the sake of not blowing another 600$ I may run it this year. Even with the camshaft being a poor match It will be making more then enough power for the block to handle. Next winter I will likely upgrade to a Iron eagle or Little M with a 55MM cam tunnel and 0.937" keyway lifters.

So I have been flopping back and forth between wet sump and dry sump and I finally came to a decision this weekend... DRYSUMP!
Dan olson aluminum pan with one piece billet rail
New Barnes 3 stage drysump pump.
Pan cleared the K-member with zero modification.

Small update... more parts arriving. I intend on stripping the panels back off the car to prep it for paint and take the plasma cutter to the front end to male some room the turbo kit and drysump setup.
Dual transmission coolers because I intend on street driving this thing a lot. And locking trans dipstick.
2.5gallon meth tank for street driving.
rebuilt the t&d rockers. Changing the exhaust rockers to match the intake rocker ratio, had to replace one shaft.
Got the correct brackets for my barnes pump and test fit everything with the k-member...

This build is going awesome, congrats! But how did you fab the radiator support so you can remove it for ease of engine access? did you just cut and make tabs? If you have covered this already i'm sorry but i read through it pretty quickly in between classes the other day and found myself reading it again today!

Sold the old engine and got some more parts in.
Billet 1x cam sync distributor.
holley 58x crank trigger. Has some slight clearance issues with the drysump scavenge fitting.
Logged the rod bolts on the rods and honed the small ends for proper pin bore clearance.
Got my 1.6 ratio exhaust rockers and got those installed.

I really liked that old engine. Any idea what it's going to be installed in? (I'll be cruising Edmonton in June. Might be a good race depending...).
You've got a lot of work in front of you. Any projected completion date?
It all looks like great stuff. Long live the Gen 1 SBC.

It's goin into a late 70's second gen, out in Nova Scotia. Goal is to make the first local outlaw 8.5 race June 14, but that's being very optimistic.

Re: My 1986 Z-28 build thread *PIC HEAVY*
Last night I did some drysump pan surgery, the crank trigger bracket didnt clear one of my scavenge fittings on the pan, so some surgery was in order.
The clearance issue...
Took this trashed pan and stole some fittings from it.
My good pan, before cutting it up...
Big ole hole cut in the side, revealing the top scavenge line...
Fitting in place
Line re-routed, needs some minor fit and finish work and final welding and the pan will be ready for powdercoating.
All ready for welding.
This took about 4 hours in total, I was nervous about cutting the pan up, but it worked out quite well.
