Re: guess i could say its my build thread

2 good looking girls, nice! I ripped the carpet out of the rear of my car because I didn't have a hatch pulldown for the longest time so moisture got in and the carpet held onto it, needless to say it smelled horrid and was time for it to go. If it were me, I'd dynamat your car before putting the carpet back down.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

fixed my highbeam issue, used to be when you switched to high beams only the inner two headlights were on, now all 4 are on like they should be, turns out wiring was all fine, high beams plug was on the wrong way lol funny, never thought to check that since i bought the car

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

maybe a good idea maybe not, thinking about making the car look a little bit older, saw some small cheap stuff i could do to achieve just that at work tonight.

some chrome mirrors (fake chrome but still) look kinda nice imo

I think anything other than the factory mirrors looks bad on our cars, just my opinion though.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

we had something like them on our 72 chevy a longtime ago and i thought they looked great, i know our body lines make it hard to really do anything to them, but one of my mirrors (passenger side) doesn't seem right, and the door is bowed underneath it so theres a gap between the window and the sweep, water gets in (alot lately hurricane sandy is coming) and i really dont want to ruin my door panels, i wish i could put it inside and there not a certain thing, just a "maybe" idea that i had same with the window cranks

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

The window cranks would probably look fine, I'm having a hard time picturing what the passenger side mirror is doing to cause water to leak in...

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

doors bowed underneath like its been hit, the mirror is messed up as a result, and the window channel is deformed at the front and the sweep doesn't seat to the window, and the window doesn't seal at the top so water is getting in and soaking my door panels

Oh okay, I don't think new mirrors would fix that though.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

still no updates, pretty sure sandy is over, so i actually drove it today, bad news i still have leaks BAD ones, as i could hear water spray behind me on the interstate, guess my windows dont seal at the back? could my doors be too far forward? o.0 i mean they shut fine and i though sealed good, hell no hitting or rubbing and my lines are all clean, body gaps are good (except for the hood which shouldn't apply here)

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

well something has to be wrong with my car, a friend (works at the gas station) and i did some math, and I'm getting something like 8.1 mpg 0.o but aside from a low idle in this cold, the car runs fine

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

damn guys i just did some fact checking with google maps, and apparently my trip to school is only 14 miles, 20 bucks (5.8 gallons) gets me there, and back twice so 56 miles divided by 5.8 equals 9.6xxx so its not as bad as i thought but its still bad any idea why it would be so bad? huge vacuum leak? timing out of whack? something? i have no idea, unless my gas gauge is wrong like my tach, or my tach isn't wrong and i'm really doing 6xxx rpms on the interstate on my way there.

Read your plugs, see if you're lean or rich.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

dakota i know i cant already, they'll be black like the last time i changed them because the car burns some oil, emo idk i didn't think my o2 sensor really did anything same with the cat honestly i know it "lowers emissions" but i didn't think it even affected my mileage im hoping its not because of the rings needing replaced, awhile ago i tested my compression at work and it seemed fine

o2 sensor tells it whether the car is running lean or rich, clogged cat would restrict your air pump(engine) from doing it's job properly.

Re: guess i could say its my build thread

not much of an update, but changed the oil today, it was black, looked like molasses but still felt like oil so that was good, i have yet to cut open the k&n oil filter that was on it to see how it did, i should hope well, no metal, no metal on the magnetic drain plug. checked how the plugs were holding up, its been about 8-9 months they were black, but then again they're black new so i cant say they were fouled, had a little bit of an oil coating on them, but the car burns a little bit of oil i expected this, i sandblasted them from the threads down to silver so i guess next time i'll see how they look, thinking of switching to bosch platinums but idk what if any gain i'd see. car still runs fine, starts everytime no smoke since the first couple months i had it, so maybe it was just from sitting and the rings are okay?

Don't waste your money on Platinum plugs. Our engines/ignition systems don't need them, its just a waste of money.

another thing, i'm not sure why obviously or i wouldn't really post it lol, but my oil pressure gauge is acting funny, it will peg itself sometimes and then go back to normal and then peg itself again, bad pcv valve? bad sensor? burnt wire?

My engine, was 400 to my door (garage door) was a bit worried about it being a 99 and having over 260k mile son it, of course my dad just bought a 99 silverado that's about the same mileage, runs good no issues so hey can't be to bad

looks pretty nasty but i guess alot of guys have seen worse with less mileage on some of their engines.
