Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

do you know any gear heads that are constantly working on things? if you do save some cash and wait and see if they come across something. i took the stock motor and trans out of mine( 305-700R4 ) and sold it to a friend for 200$ the motor had like 60k miles. thats cheap but i sold it cheap because for 1 i didnt want them and 2 selling them higher would have taken time and i didnt just want that stuff lying around in the way lol. so get with your gear head buddys first, if they dont have anything search through a wrecking yard... if the car is blown up make sure you can tell its on the motor side cause most of the time either the motor or trans blew up and the other is in alright shape ( in hopes a fan of john force wasnt driving it and liked to do a 1/8th mile burnout all the time ) lol. you can usually pick up a used tranny for about 350-400$ ( thats here ) and a SBC for about the same. DONT buy it and just put it in... save some more cash and have someone go through it. ive seen enstances where a shade tree mechanic has left out ball bearings here or moved them there or took a spring out here... to make it shift harder, so you wanna make sure everythings in working order.

hope ive helped you a bit, dont get discouraged.
take your time and build it right... THE first time.

Thanks man appreciate all the advice I can get, im gonna wait to get the car over here before I make my final decision. At the moment their are two different members on here who have a 350 and transmission that they are willing to sell me going to see how that goes... but the last resort is stick with the v6

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Glad yoy kept the car, I almost sold my 92 RS a week after i got it because of some BS, but glad I kept it so far, giving me something to keep me busy, well as much as i can with winter here. I was thinking about swaping out the 3.1 as well, but with all that needs to be done to make the swap work it's not worth it me me so the 3.1 is going to stay. It does seem like 3.1's have more issues at time then other 3rd gen engins, but who know? I do have to say I love how good my LB9 run's-not fast, but just a nice running engine everytime I take the car out. Well lets all stick with it and I'm sure we will have some sweet cars when done. On a side note my car will be Satin black when done.

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Yeah the LB9's arent quick at all they were just put out with a good ammount of torque so it can feel like your going fast lol

Gonna stick with my 3.1 for now and get the car looking good inside and out then in a couple years when i finally feel like I am financially stable enough and have a good amount of experience driving I want to go 5.3 (LM7) twin turbo been reading alot on those engines and they are some bad ****'s

I actually got my brother to buy one yesterday...

i envy him lol he picked it up for $300 just the shortblock 42k miles...

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Yeah the LB9 does pull nice for only being the 190hp peanut cam engine and 2:73's out back. The 3.1 on the other hand is one slow engine, but Oh well. One thing I like about the 3.1 is there is alot of room to work on them, just did plugs, wires, cap&rotor on Sunday and it was not bad at all, the LB9 you can't even see the plugs from the top LOL! I'm going to try to get some sanding done on the rear bumper cover I just picked up over the weekend tonight.

You got that right, the ammount of space is unbelievable and Im a pretty big guy... Ive never gotten the chance to drive this one so I have no Idea how they perform but in my opinion if its made by chevy its made right and its made to last...

Do you Daily yours?

I know this is dumb but is the 3.1 Camaro engine the same as the 3.1 Corsica?

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

The plans have changed, as of now the plan is to buy my brothers 92 rs, it will alleviate me from having to do a very expensive restoration that I really dont have the money or time for, especially since I will be heading to college very soon...

He is to busy with work and his iroc so he decided it was time to let this one go...

as for this 92 I have not decided what to do with it but this brings this thread to an official close... as soon as I get the other car(in about 9 months) I will create a new one

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

So... the car is officially sold...

But I still get to technically keep it because my brother is the one that bought it...

He is going to get it running and daily drive it til the wheels fall off...

get some good seats into it

plasti dip

tires

tags

insurance

and whatever other miscellaneous things I may need

Than I will decide if I want to sell it and buy Z28 or keep it

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

So im going to start with the getting it running part. The v6 that is currently in it has about 200k miles and I really dont know the history of the engine so rather than fixing the problems it currently has im going to pull it out and replace it with a 350.

Currently I am searching for a good deal on an engine and transmission.

Going to hit up the junkyard on my next day off and hopefully I can find one there.

Working on getting the engine out...

When I get it out its looking like im also going to remove my k member and sand and paint it has a lot of rust..

The entire underbody needs some attention has some rust and is just dirty and ugly.

also going to paint the entire engine bay .

Still on the hunt for a new engine and tranny.. Hope to have the current engine and tranny out soon. Going to remove the torque arm on my next day off and detach the tranny from the drive line.

Everything else is disassembled.

Going to rent an engine hoist or maybe buy one and get the engine out on the same day if I have time.

Still looking for an engine hit up some junkyards and their prices are ridiculous for engines. Going to stick to Craigslist I have found a couple on their that seemed like good deals but were gone before I could check them out.

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Going to try and finally get the engine out on Thursday. Need to rent a reciprocating saw so I can cut the exhaust pipes since the exhaust manifolds bolts are rusted on.

Then I need to remove the Torque arm and disconnect the tranny from the driveline and they should be ready to go!!!!!!!

In the meantime I will be restoring my tail lights on Tuesday

GOing to hit them with 800 grit paint them flatblack and clear coat them. Still considering smoking them and painting the amber part to red.

These were done by MAC86

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Made some progress today...

Cut the exhaust out with a reciprocating saw.

Purchased a 700R4 with a corvette servo and 6000 miles on a rebuild for $500.

Now I need an engine....

Went and checked out a 350 (L98) today it was still in a GTA that is being parted out. Both the engine and the owner seemed legit.

Going to pick it up next week when he takes it out of the car.

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

GOt the ENGINE!

Went and picked up a 350 today (l98) the owner claims it was bored to a 355 but I am yet to confirm that. It came out of an 89 GTA. It was sitting for awhile so it is very dirty but it does turn over.

Going to get it hot tanked

Going to to purchase a rebuild kit

Going to get a cam, headers and exhaust.

Updates soon

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

So as soon as the engine and transmission are in. It will be going to my buddy christian. Who will be painting it.

Im going with Quesar Blue Metallic and silver heritage stripes (painted on) Im thinking I want to copy what they did on the 5th gens and put 25th in the stripe.

That color with C6 Grandsport wheels. and a 2 inch drop will look sick....

Top end of the engine is fully stripped going to do the bottom end soon... As for the car it has not been touched for a while. Still on the hunt for a job, once I begin working again Im going to purchase the rebuild kit and go from there.

Re: 1992 Camaro Rs

Finally made some real progress with this project. The old VEE SIX is finally out and a VEE EIGHT will soon be in it..

I know I know, pictures or it didnt happen. Ill get them up tomorrow it took me and my bro about 10 hours to complete the entire thing including clean up.

Once again the plans for the engine have changed, instead of rushing the build on the 355 that I have sitting in the garage im going to be putting in my brothers 305 that we will be removing from his iroc and replacing with a 350 vortec.

If all goes as planned it should be done before next month.

Im also considering getting the engine stroked to a 383... Going to do some research and decide whether or not it is worth it. It definitely would add about 2k to my build.
