what would you do if....?
Ok, if this is the wrong spot to ask I'm sorry but..
I have an 88 iroc hard top. It was gutted out to be a dragster but I'm slowly resurecting it.
I just found, and am negotiating on a 92 RS.whole car,305tpi 25th anniversary.it needs some attention though.
Originally I thought the RS could be a parts car. But it looks nice. Would need minimal body prep, a small amount of interior restoration and mostly I could put my efforts into drivetrain and suspension. I haven't looked at the floors yet though.
My IROC needs all new electrical, a fender, a hood, complete drivetrain.interior. new suspension, brakes. Everything. So far I have just cleaned it up, cut the firewall for the clutch (auto to manual swap) welded 2 patches in the floor.
I don't have time, room, or money for 2 projects.would it make more sense to part the RS and use the IROC or salvage/sell good body parts off the IROC keep the RS.

I like IROC's better than RS, but it sounds like you have a shell of an IROC and a shell that needs body work as well. I would thing about the RS.
Re: what would you do if....?
I haven't got to really check the car out too much. Just pictures. I do believe its tbi though. I know in the end 3rd gens don't have a ton of value. And at this point IROC is just a 3 digit RPO. In tgo's tech page it has like 25,000 1988 IROCs made and 70,000 1992 RSs. Big difference.
I'm really thinking of just parting the RS. Use what I can, try to sell every piece I can't use. Scares me tho, I've never crushed a car before.

Buy the RS as cheap as possible. fix whatever needs attention yourself to keep cost down. Sell for profit. Use money towards iroc.

Re: what would you do if....?
It's always sad to see a good car go to the junk yard.
That being said picking the car to restore first comes down to which car you feel more attached too, starting platform, and meets your criteria for budget. It's easy to point and say pick this one or that one. It is really up to you. You're the one that knows how much of a budget you have and your abilities. You're also the one that is going to have to struggle through the problems as they arise.
Depending on your city/location you might be able to get away with letting one sit outside for a parts car or just to store for time being. Most junk yards are not going to care about the condition of the car (think of all the times you see standing water in cars in the yard). They normally just care about the gross weight as they do make some money off parts but mainly they are just wanting the metal.
