5.3 vs 6.0
5.3 vs 6.0
The other day i was putting together a price list for my 5.3 to get finished and thought to myself how much a 6.0 would be in comparison. WELL, i got to thinking and briefly looked at the similarities between the two and noticed that they share the same stroke of 3.662 IIRC. Despite the bore being 4.0 as apposed to 3.779, could i use the rotating assembly from the 5.3 with new pistons in a 6.0? Ive seen some 6.0 blocks go for rather cheap and i figured what if....
Thanks,
Tyler

You can get a 6.0 for the price's I see 5.3's. That is if you are looking at iron 6.0 truck motors. So the question is, do you like power? Because there is no replacement for displacement.

Re: 5.3 vs 6.0
Have seen 5.3 bore to 4" on the older 5.3s. So yes, a 5.3 crank and rods with new 4 inch bore pistons will maybe need balancing.

Re: 5.3 vs 6.0
There is a lot of information on this forum. Makes me really nervous to want to swap a 6.0 LQ4 and a T56 at the same time. I can actually afford the swap now, research helps

hmm..lq4/t56 swap makes you nervous? dont be scared of the swap..be scared you may never wipe the grin off your face or own a set of tires that last 2 seasons again
Re: 5.3 vs 6.0
5.3s are cheaper and easily handle 600 rwhp. Why would someone spend more for a 6.0 if they are going boost on stock internals? Stronger than the 5.3 to start with? How is the 6.0 stronger than the 5.3 block? 5.3 blocks have seen over 1k rwhp.

Re: 5.3 vs 6.0
Price all depends on where you get your motor from..6.0 are more common here than 5.3 and just as cheap. The 6.0 cast iron block is stronger then the aluminum 5.3 if boosting it.
The 6.0 has seen over 600rwhp on bone stock motor..many over 1k aswell fully built just the same.
Turbo lq4's can handle boost just fine, like any other ls motor in stock form..rod bolts are the enemy.Put some arp's in the bottom end and give it some boost.

Re: 5.3 vs 6.0
Nothing wrong with boosting 5.3's as this being one of my favs on the boards
But no reason a 6.0 cant/wont do the exact same, price is only a matter of when/where/how you go about your build.Only downside to the cast iron blocks is the 80 or so extra pounds of front end weight.
