So, yesterday I decided to take an 8 hour road trip to take a look at a 91 Z28 that I have been eyeing. I recruited one of my friends to take the trip with me. Yesterday was my day off, and my wife had already left for work so, lets just say I "forgot" to tell her what I was doing. By the time I got home last night, it was after midnight and the wife was asleep. With me when I arrived home, was my "new" 100% original 91 Z28 with 18k miles!
Once again this morning, I was out the door at 5:30am to go to work and she was still asleep. I am kind of dreading going home tosay, as she will be there, and I will be pulling into our driveway with my 2nd 3rd gen. I will let you you guys know if I need a place to stay.

Just make sure you keep the car if you get a divorce.

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
I had a similar issue..
when I got mine I didn't tell her and took the day off, drove about 80 miles away with a friend and brought it back. I was not too late (about 15 min) and my wife took one look and got mad I spent the money. blamed me for taking my daughters college saving (in one month I had that money back in bank) and stopped speaking with me for a while. I debated selling it to warm back the relationship (married 18 years at that point) and even posted it with higher prices than I knew I would get at that time on craigslist.

she eventually stopped complaining about it when I found free storage and she didn't see it.. 3 years later she rode in it (something she said she would never do with that hunk of junk) and admitted it was not as bad as expected but was embarrassed to be one of those old people in a "sports car" that she hates to see.

she is Chinese so it was even more traumatic for her old american car !
anyway.. she supports my hobby now but if I got another.. no way.. lol
I love her and the car. knows I wont trade her or the car for anything

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
I have heard it time and time again from other married men, Better to ask for forgiveness, than permission.

At least you brought home a nice one. I drug home my 92 convertible, my wife was not excited at all, thing was nasty!!! She got over it.... but I did leave her a message telling her that I was going to buy a car Probably not gonna ask anymore, I missed out on a nice 91 B4C few weeks back that I wanted to daily.

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
yeah in hindsight I am glad I did it. she got over it and yeah it was tough but she would have never agreed to it and would have been pissed at me to keep bringing it up!
I agree with BADNBLK. I wont do it again but for that one nice one.. yeah.. np.

I have three thirdgen birds. My wife is constantly campaigning for me to lose at least one of them, if not two... I have kept a lid on it, but heads would roll if I came home with another one.

No... I wish I did. We have an attached 2-car garage. Our house sits on .83 acres, but it's on a slope. I am planning to build a detached 2-car garage/workshop with a four post lift eventually.

I don't have it yet because the only way I can get it is to ask permission... not really possible to put one up first and ask forgiveness later.

There are some exceptions to the rule of course! I don't really practice the "do whatever I want and apologize later" methodology in our marriage, but many times I wish I did... 91 B4C for cheap

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
Wow this all sounds familiar lol. When I bought my 91 I didn't even bring the car home will after I was FOUR MONTHS into the payments (got it from a buy here pay here place). I kept the car at a friends house until I felt like I wasn't going to get shot. I had to take my wife out to dinner to tell her I bought another car and she flipped the hell out on me lol. She didn't talk to me for damn near 2 weeks after that but eventually she warmed up to the car as I really needed a daily driver with a full interior and a heater. Now she wants to take the car everywhere instead of the 2006 Tahoe we have lol.

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
I really dont see this going well for me.

I was thinking of taking the one suggestion and tell her it is to replace the other one. Put the other one on Craigslist/ebay for a price that nobody would pay. "See Honey, I'm trying to sell the other one."

Your wife and I would get along great then!
I've bought all but one of the third gens sitting in our driveway- currently we have 5 parts cars, and 3 drivers.

To the OP: I would have gotten that car before you even had a chance to look at it, and told you it was mine, but I would share!

Well, that went pretty much as I expected. I guess the silent treatment is the standard response for wives of Third Gen owners. Do the plan this out ahead of time?

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
Bought ours ( from a friend of mine ) 6 months b4 we got married. It was red, faded orange, and yellow. All the fx & small parts were in the back hatch area in a clutter mess.
She came over one day & I said " Surprize-- I got us this to work on together "
Then she says *$¥§¥$~>£¿※ What did it cost? What's it going to cost to fix it? Be done by the wedding?
Aanyway, 6yrs later she wants it finished. Its painted, runs good, needs some wire work......
Atleast you have a complete & drivable car!!
I've felt your anxiety...
Divorce-- naah...
Maybe a lonely night or 2!!
I guess as said earlier, offer to share...

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
When my wife was pregnant a few years ago, I stumbled on a good deal for a TTA. I mentioned it to her thinking she was going to tell me to forget it. To my surprise she told me to buy it. She must have been delirious due to the pregnancy but needless to say I jumped on it. I still hear it years later. She says I took advantage of the situation.

Best course of action is positive rather than negative. Quietly get something done that she's been wanting... order vanity plates with her name on them... don't wait for the nuclear blast... get that lead suit NOW...

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
Man I am lucky I don't have to worry about this.. I have owned 60 cars and I am only 24.. My wife is usually pretty understanding about me buying cars but She would definitely divorce me if I went behind her back and bought something I wanted without even informing her.

I think probably the worst thing I have done to her was recently when she was on vacation I sold her Acura TL, I did get her approval to sell it though. I talked her into getting a different car bc she had the TL for over 3 years. That was last month. In the meantime instead of buying her a replacement car I put her in my Honda fit and bought a Z06 corvette for myself. All of which I got pre-approval for from her but I guess the reality sunk in when I got home with the Z06 and she was stuck with the Fit b/c she keeps making sly jokes about me selling her car to buy a Z06.

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
This is a pretty funny one. My current girlfriend was more excited than I was when I bought my current Camaro. After I sold my '91 RS my ex-wife would start flipping out whenever I would look at another Camaro. Then again, if I had known how the marriage was going to turn out, I would have kept the car and got rid of the wife.

Re: Grounds for Divorce??
I ran it past the wife before I got my Camaro, even went so far as to tell her it needed some work cause it had been wrecked. She was fine with it UNTIL me and 2 friends brought it home on a car trailer with another trailer and 2 truck beds full of parts

5 years later I still am hearing about it whenever I hint at bringing home another project of any kind.

Totally worth the silent treatment!! Very nice car man.

I was gonna ask for a pic of your unhappy wife. I pictured a human version of that Grumpy Cat.

I got a grumpy face from my wife when I showed her this picture of our "new" car...

Damn, 18K miles, worth the divorce, plenty of women out there !! LOL

I really don't know how I wound up with 2 -3rd gens. I did announce to her I wanted one (GTA), then about a year later, the black IROC vert was easy, she said she'd like that, I had one the next week.

Don't let it sit out in the rain ! Put the wifes car out there ... LOL
