1986 Camaro Restoration
Hi All,
Just wanted to share some pics from my recent restoration. I bought the car in September of 2008 and immediately began to rip it apart. It took me 5 years but shes back on the road now. Every inch of the car was touched, a complete rebuild.
All new suspension, just about all new interior except for some original components that i will replace this winter, engine swap, all body work and new paint.
All work was done in my garage, original 305 TPI was replaced with a rebuilt 383 TPI, all body work and paint was done myself. Front clip, fenders and hood were off a Camaro in much better shape, doors were off a Firebird and interior panels and seats were pulled from another Camaro.
Still needs a little bit of tuning to get it all squared away but shes runs and she moves and that's a big step for me since I never drove the car when I got it, just started to rip it apart.
I could not have done all this without this forum and the wealth of knowledge within it, so thank you all for that. Here are some pics of what it looked like when I got it.

Looks good man. I'm coming to the end of a 3 year project and I have to ask. How was it coming up with all the fasteners and little parts that were taken off so long ago? I'm finding all mine but I wasn't too organized about it so it's a chore.

Re: 1986 Camaro Restoration
Thanks Joe. As far as the hardware goes, a lot of them that required a through bolt and a nut for body components, etc, I ended up just ordering a bunch of Metric hardware through McMaster-Carr company. I was able to get my hands on a service manual that has exploded views of the majority of the car, in that manual it references the original GM part numbers, i looked a number of those up in Google and found websites that still sold them. I'll be honest though a number of the non-structural, non weight bearing, etc fasteners I used standard hardware fasteners that worked out, stainless for the exterior and black oxide coated for the interior.
