87 Camaro Z28
87 Camaro Z28
I picked an 87 z28 and fell in love with it. When I bought in around June it had had like 137k miles low miles on the rebuild motor and trans. Currently it has like 141k on it and no big problems. It has a 305 Tpi v8 that is completly stock. Now on to some pics!!

This is when I tore out the nasty tan carpet for used black carpet

This is my new magnaflow dual tip exhaust

Pic of me and my dads fifth gen

local car shows!

super cool scenery pic lol

Picked up the LS1 engine

Getting it off the truck

On the stand

I need to get updated pictures of the interior i put used black interior in look heaps better than the stock tan interior. I also got my Sphoon K-Member in this week. Still in search of a harness and transmission then i need to figure out what i want to do with the engine.
Let me know what you guys think any suggestions would be great!!

Re: 87 Camaro Z28
My opinion? Ad stripes at the bottom to separate the ground effects from body. You could use IROC-Z two color stripes or the correct Z28 stripes. I've always liked the Z28 stripes and seeing 1985-1987 Z28s is rare, so the stripes will make it stand out. I would then use the silver stripes because the blue stripes might not match the existing paint.

geez I was thinking of getting rid of my two tone on my 87 z28 and just do one color, but those pictures have me debating lol

Re: 87 Camaro Z28
I would consider that more of an accent color. Now some of the Corvette's from 1984 to 1987 which had half the body another color. Now that was two tone.

In my area, there's a couple IROCs of assorted years, but only two or three other Z-28s between '85-'87

Re: 87 Camaro Z28
Ok so a decent update. Part wise ive picked up my t56 transmission and ls1 fuel tank and my ls1/thirdgen custom engine harness with this it will make it loom factory and be plug and play.. Work wise i started tearing down the engine its a bare block now and should hit the machine shop this week.
Re: 87 Camaro Z28
Ok on my last update i didn't have any pictures. I was finally able to get some pictures uploaded. Like i had mentioned i tore the engine apart and i didn't find any unusual wear or tear. I got the block and crank sent to a local machine shop and got a call a few days later saying there could be a problem with my crank. Turns out there was a head or head gasket issue because coolant had gotten on the crank and it was slightly scarred. I brought him a rod and get ran it on the crank and said it didnt need to be turned and was fine the way it was. Now onto the pictures!!
Pictures of the T56

Here are a few during the disassemble process!

Here is a pic of the crank and block right after i got it back from the machine shop.

I painted the block an aluminum color and did the oil pan black.

This past week i got the crank torqued down with new GM bolts

Then i put the A/C and alternator brackets on.

And here is a quick of my ls swap harness done by Jared (25th327RS) and im more than happy with his work. The harness looks factory and he found me both the LS harness and the 87 harness that were need to make the final product. The harness definitely look factory once installed and make it look my LS belongs there!

And thats were im at right now hopefully this week i will pick up my piston rings and have rotating assembly all together.

Re: 87 Camaro Z28
1987 is also a 1 year stripe for the Z28
The stripes on the blue car get narrower as they go up. It looks like they get wider as they go up on the red car...which is probably why he thought they were upside down. But it's an optical illusion, because what you CAN'T see in the pic is the lighter grey outline stripe at the very top, and in between the first and second stripe....making that top stripe APPEAR wider, but it is actually narrower than the second stripe down, just like on the blue car

Re: 87 Camaro Z28
The blue car looks like an '86. The stripes on the '87 had silver (or gold) between the gaps. I think the taper on the rear bumper was slightly different as well. Oh, '87 stripes are impossible to find. Trust me I know!
