I had my reservations about driving today, roads were a little damp from a rain this morning. Figured she needed a bath anyhow so I just took the old girl to pick up my daughter. Waiting at the light and I feel a jar, was so slight I thought it was something funky with the drivetrain. First thing I did was look at the shifter and make sure I didn't let my foot off the brake. All was fine there then I look in the rearview. A jeep tapped the rear. I felt a wave of horror then anger. I jumped out and my first reaction was to scream "are you F-ing kidding me?" had a few more choice words for her incompetence. I actually felt a little sorry at that point when I saw it was a 55-60 YO woman with her kid in the car. I looked over the most likely contact points and it all seemed fine. I let the lady go, figured my small explosion was enough trauma for her today. Was a little dirty so I didn't notice the two chips from the bumper flexing until I got home and washed it up for closer inspection. Not a huge deal compared to some stories on here I have seen, but certainly not happy about it. Have plenty of paint left over for touch up and I've had to a few times for stone chips. I guess, all in all, I should feel lucky this was all that happened. Peoples ignorance on the road just kills me though.
Lol, what can you do? Funny, I even replaced one of the 3rd brake light bulbs last night to help avert this. I just hope it's not a precursor for a bad year to come.
Joe, I'll share a story with all. Flashback, April 2000,Wife took my 88 GTA to work, I took the brand new 1 week old 2000 WS6 to work, I came home and parked in the driveway, I'm standing in the front yard and here come's "hot rod Carol" into the Cul-de-Sac, up the driveway, and SMACKS into the rear of the WS6!!!! She said the brakes did'nt work!!!!! I just done the brakes; they worked fine! Craked and chipped the paint on the GTA; no damage at all on the WS6. Cold night at Bob's house. We got it fixed, no biggie. It happens. At least it wasn't serious for you and nobody was hurt.
HaHa! Well of course it was my fault! I had the car in the driveway instead of the garage! We got over it; still laugh about it, and I kept Carol that is! She's a good cookie!
Atleast everyone's alright, what a waste of a min I used to read how u "blew up on an elderly woman"
You must be just a kid to call 50s "elderly". When YOU spend 3-1/2 years and way too much money turning this
Into this
Or this, into what you want it to be, you may have a deeper understanding of my anger when someone runs into it.
I never looked at who was in the car. Yes, people are more important than cars or any other possession, but I was sure everyone was ok. The car I had worked so hard on to get to where it is I was not so sure of. And to be honest, I wouldn't have let it slide if I saw those chips. There would have been an accident report filed and claim on her insurance to fix it.
this story brings back memories- when i was 15 on my learners permit Dad let me drive the 69 Camaro. We had just bought it as a bucket, but it ran drove and mechanically was/is sound. I was stopped at a red light, nothing crazy, a long coast slow stop. Car is settled, then WHAM. older guy (maybe 45-50, i was 15 remember) in some import looking pissed off at me through the rear view mirror. Dad jumped out the passenger side and I was scared for the guy. Luckily the chrome steel bumper did more damage to that guys car (he never even got out to check) than he did to ours. We both drove off.
The following christmas dad got got new bumpers for the camaro, which yes he still has- Numbers matching 69 RS 350 auto before you guys ask
Back when I got my first Ducati (2009), the very 1st day riding, only 1/2 block from my house, a kid in a Honda POS ran a red light and came within a foot or less of t-boning me, he was going like 65mph too to beat the light. Go figure, this was after not riding for 14yrs because of getting t-boned on a motorcycle when I was 15 and walking away from an accident that should have killed me instantly. Life's a total crap shoot lol.
Threads like this remind me how much I like my $800 paint job.sure it's not perfect but I can drive my car almost anywhere without worry. A chip like that would be ok with me
Joe Tag,
I understand perfectly !
I have blood sweat and tears in my car and the paint.
It used to drive my crazy when someone would be two inches from my bumper cover at a light.
I walked out to my car recently parked in no mans land at Safeway to find the rear cover "spider webbed" from one side to the other.
Hard to explain the feeling, but it was like getting punched in the gut..... I got over it.
The only good thing that has come out of it is I don't trip as much when some one is close at a light.
Bump me and they can fix it all.
Custom B/C, PPG Rally Red, with Crystal Red Pearl added..........

Sorry to hear that Ron. I know how much pride you take in your paint.
If anything good came out of my experience (and the three close calls last year, all would have been the others fault), it was being inspired to change my insurance policy to collector car insurance with Hagerty. Around 200 more a year than adding on to my DD policy, but full coverage, no deductible and will pay the money I have invested in the car now. Driving the Grand Cherokee 6 years I haven't had anyone try to hit me, just baffles me.
