1986 IROC-Z project....I have twins LOL

I just bought this car tonight, and it is being delivered tomorrow night. It's a 1986 IROC-Z with 69k miles. A lady bought it new, drove it till she died, and the car got parked outside for years and years and years. It looks like it could have been parked right beside my black 87 IROC-Z project car. It's ALMOST an absolute identical twin to my 19k mile IROC. The only difference is my 19k mile car has a power driver's mirror, carpeted console sides, and cargo shade, and this one doesn't. It has 4 wheel disc brakes, t-tops, TPI 305, overhead console, 145mph speedometer, etc. The car doesn't have any rot, and a straight body, but the paint is all sun baked off just like my 87. I'll post updates as I tinker with it, but the black 87 is next on the chopping block....so there will be updates on that car very soon! Anyways, here's a few pics...

Another cool find! Amazing, no rot even after being parked in the grass.

It hasn't been in that particular spot very long. I was TOLD there was zero rot, but I haven't even seen the car in person. I will definitely know more tonight when it gets delivered. I didn't give crap for the car, so if the floor is rotten, I'll have a good parts car lol

Nope, some jerkwad stole the plenum, throttle body, and MAF sensor off it. I have a running 86 parts car that I can take that off for it. It turns over fine.

Re: 1986 IROC-Z project....I have twins LOL

I haven't bought a 3rd gen in a few years. My wife and family mostly accepted the 3rd gens. They knew I was into them and lets face it, they look attractive and swoopy, so even non-car folks can understand.

But the cars I've bought over the past few years - partly because 3rd gen have gone up in price and I already have three - have not been quite so swoopy, so wifey doesn't quite understand.

I had to dismount the front tires and clean the beads and remount them so they'd hold air. The tires have almost zero wear......but are absolute garbage. Cracks all over the place LOL. Just like my black 87...it got parked with new rubber. The body on this thing has maybe 3 little dings, total. Damn straight car. Just a shame it got parked outside and left for dead

SOLID. There's surface rust on the floor, but not one single spot of rot, anywhere on the car.

I snapped a couple pics from underneath the car today. And.....the car doesn't want to turn over. I'll have to investigate further, but all of the engine accessories are free, so it's either a bad starter, or the engine is stuck. If that's the case....I see an LS in it's future

Re: 1986 IROC-Z project....I have twins LOL

There is a guy coming from Michigan on Monday to buy this car. The engine is stuck and for now I don't have the time to mess with it. Too many irons in the fire. The car is going to get a supercharged LS transplant that is currently in a silver, hard top 1984 Z28. It couldn't be going to a better home!
