I picked this up this IROC in Texas and transported to its new home in Arizona.

Re: Pics of my new 85 IROC

Thanks T.L. dogwood and dynodave43.
just had to put new tires, get the front brakes up to snuf. Power steering pump went out but it was the original pump. I don't think there is a thermostat. It runs cold, like at 150. At long idle the temp will go over 220 then the electric fan will kick in. The switch is a 230 degree switch I hear. I going to put in a 195 thermostat, 185 fan switch and a new temp sensor.

Very nice classic chevy! My aunt had an 85 like this when I was 7 yrs old. They say the 85 TPI 305s moved down the road real good.

This was done for emissions.

Re: Pics of my new 85 IROC

Thanks for the info dm3k. That temperature for the fan to kick in just seems high to me. Being in Arizona I'm probably more sensitive to overheating engines. An engine temperature can be 110 just sitting in your driveway.... lol. Should I leave it the way it is now and not touch the system unless it starts giving me cooling issues?

First time I saw my temp gauge go to 230 I freaked out. Then I looked in the service manual and saw it was normal. As long as the fans kick on you should be fine. It was for emissions. They thought the engine running hotter would burn off more carbon. I won’t alter mine.

Re: Pics of my new 85 IROC

Thanks dm3k. I feel a lot more comfortable with the temperature setup. I'll take the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" plan.

Re: Pics of my new 85 IROC

Its hot down here in Ms also. Fan switch has always been one of the first mods I do on a Thirdgen. In 104deg temps you don't want that car getting to 230 deg in the first place. Its a simple fix and definitely worth it in brutal southern climates.

Leave or modify it. Your call. I can certainly understand your concern.

Fan switch and thermostat sound like a solid plan. But it sounds like your temp sensor for the gauge is right on the money.

Very nice. Couple questions. What the round thing in front of parking light on driver side. Did you add the cup holder or previous owner. That is a nice addition either way.

Is that a stock type dash pad? Looks a lot different than my 88.

Yes sir, the dash has been covered. I'm not sure what the original dash looks like. The seats were all redone also.

The little silver round cover is an anti-theft device. The previous owner did not have the key. But fortunately it's turned off.
The added cup holder was placed where the ash tray was. It is nice addition but it will only hold the size of 12oz can.

Thanks dmccain, it is a concern. The summer here can have several days of 110°. I'm gonna keep thinking on it. Also the ac compressor is original and not sure of its functionality. I'm taking it this week to get an r12 conversion to the r134a I think it is. I'm sure I'll be driving it some this summer but I'll try to keep it garaged most of the summer.

Forgot to mention that it was not from a member. I scoured craigslist from all over the US. Found this listing in Arlington TX. Paid 11k. Thought it was a great deal. I had it professionally appraised and it came back at $14,200.00
