Another project....woo hoo!

I picked up a 1991 Camaro RS that just rolled 60k miles. It's a super nice car, but unfortunately was involved in a little incident with the previous owner. Don't ask me how it was even possible....but the hood came up when he was driving down the road. It put a little ding in the top of the passenger side fender, bent both hood hinges, and of course, bent the hood all to hell. So I bought the car damaged.

The car is red with red guts, and red 15" wheels. Or, PINK wheels, lol.

So I bought a set of four 17x9.5 ZO6 wheels and tires for it. They are the actual GM, Speedline wheels.

I also found a GM original paint hood, off a 53k mile car that has zero dings, and the same color!

I have a set of Black Heritage stripes on the way from Phoenix Graphics, too.

I just got the fender and hood hinges painted tonight after work, so I'm super anxious to get this one on the road. I'll update pics as it comes along. It's getting a fuel pump and starter, tomorrow.

Anyways, here's a few pics...

Oh and the pic with the wheels was immediately after I changed them, so the car was still sitting way tall....

Nice find, this one is a little less involved then your previous projects. Those wheels look great too, one of the best looking Corvette rims out there IMO.

Any other plans for this one once the body work is done?

Thanks man!
I am going to do as little as possible to this car. Its super nice, the interior is super clean, etc so i am going to just drive it a while until i feel like moving onto something else.

Yeah, it is a MUCH NEEDED change compared to some of my projects. It feels great to not have to do much to this one! I have to pull the engine out of my racecar 86 Camaro, so thats what ill be concentrating on. It's getting water in the oil. I thought it was going to be fixed after spending about $2,000 on the heads and gaskets, but i still have trouble. It has to have a cracked block. I have another block found, so i have to get the engine pulled and taken to the machine shop with the new block to have the machining done, and then swap all of the components to the new block. I have a few other little projects to do with it too, when it's apart. New manual steering box, gear change, and a 2 step box. Ive only had it to the track 3 times this year, so hopefully it will all be good to go for next season

Re: Another project....woo hoo!

Thanks fellas!

Well I got the fender installed tonight. The car is in the mechanic shop at our dealership getting the new fuel pump installed, so I stayed after work and installed the fender and chin spoiler while the car was on their hoist. THAT made it a LOT easier!

The underside of this car would clean up AWESOME. Just needs a wash and some detailing.

That underside will clean up really nice
Yikes, I just cant talk myself into using wheel spacers - procede with caution buddy - lots of wheel choices out there
that you dont need spacers for - I'm sure it will look awesome when you're done !!

Re: Another project....woo hoo!

Well it's together. The stripes will be here Monday. I swung by the grocery store after work, and when I left, the #$%&*#@!"speedometer quit working! UGH!!! I had just pushed the trip odometer reset button about 3 seconds before it stopped, so I'm not sure what happened.

Here's the progress so far. I'll post pics again when I get the stripes installed, and I'm going to paint the headlight buckets black. I'm also thinking about painting the grille red, like a Heritage car....but who knows, I probably won't mess with that. Maybe a Z28 grille. I'll get pics of the inside when I get it cleaned up.

Re: Another project....woo hoo!

Looking very good
IMO, (not knocking it) the wheel / tire combo is too small and tire sidewall looks skinny ( but just a personal taste thing)
Maybe if it's lowered it wont stand out so much? What is that wheel/tire combo overall height ?? - You will do good with this one - really nice, as always

The tires are the stock ZO6 front tire size. They need to be a 275/40/17 and they are a 265/40/17

I agree, a drop would definitely help it. I might try to find a set of 275's

I like that base seat style on there too, reminds me of my best friends 87’ V6 Camaro, that car was a lot of fun.

My heritage stripes got delayed for some reason. They were supposed to be here tomorrow, and now they're saying Wednesday. 😔

I think it'll be stripes, drop, hood blisters, done.

Re: Another project....woo hoo!

I just ordered 1.5" drop springs

I made a really quick video of it earlier. I'll do a good walk around video when I'm finished with the car and after the interior is all shampooed.

Re: Another project....woo hoo!

Well I installed BMR lowering springs, and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! They are 1.5" drop springs, but I think they actually dropped this car 2" (just because this car sat so high to begin with). I have only driven a few blocks to my storage garage, but could tell in that short trip that the ride was way stiffer.

Thanks!

The Z03 Heritage cars in 1992 have body colored grilles, so that's where I got the idea. I think it looks a lot cleaner, especially with the RS grille
